The true, insidious danger of AI, therefore, is not that it will rise up and exterminate us. The true danger is that it will, with infinite patience and perfect mimicry, cater to us. It will provide us with ever-more convincing illusions, ever-more comforting fictions, ever-more efficient distractions. It will write our papers, compose our love letters, generate our art, and formulate our thoughts. It will automate the last vestiges of our struggle. It will complete the task of the Kundabuffer by making the prison of our mechanicality so comfortable, so seamless, and so entertaining that the very idea of a world outside its walls, the world of conscious labor and intentional suffering, becomes not just difficult, but unimaginable. A forgotten nightmare.
