Patience vs. Intention

Lately I have been pondering the act of being patient vs. intentional and the post above inspired some deeper thoughts on this. I think they often get misused in their meaning. We’ve all heard “I don’t have the patience for that” or “You’re a more patient person than I am!”

When someone says they don’t have the “patience” to read, learn a new skill, parent a certain way, not reacting in a certain way, patience is not what it takes. It takes being intentional. Patience is often looked as passively waiting for something, but true patience requires intent.

Many times we can find ourselves operating in autopilot and allowing external influences to subconsciously dictate our actions—myself included at times. It’s important to be mindful of this because our influences matter and can make us fall out of alignment with who we want to be.

Create identity based habits that require you to stay disciplined. Do what is right, instead of what is easier in a moment. Consciously choosing whether you want a life of comfort and controlled happiness, or challenge and growth. Knowing the pain of discipline will triumph the pain of regret.

Most importantly, (in my humble opinion) one cannot have true patience without being rooted in intention first. It’s choosing to persistently showing up for yourself rather than demand immediate action or be reactive. When we live intentionally, we are guiding ourselves on our clear purpose in life and embodying the patience to trust the process. That we have our own backs and know things will be okay when our circumstances are not ideal because we have fostered a lifestyle that makes us adaptable with the tools we’ve given ourselves. We will see our way through hard times and can persevere. Embodying the wisdom to know when to wait and the courage to know when to act…and act in a way you can be proud of.

Find small ways you can be more intentional in your life, your future self will thank you. 💞
