Yes, his face needs more refining... and yes, I have to look up masculine toe anatomy... BUT I have the outline of this mostly finished! The shading is really going to bring it to life, I promise.
Anyways... stories of Atlas really fascinate me because I feel like he is the perfect example of what it means to endure, persist, and persevere. It's easy in this day and age to feel like you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, but to continually persist... to take things one step at a time, and to gradually get stronger... is to not let that weight crush you.
"Endurance" is a word I've often thought about this year, and I think that Atlas is a good symbol for that.

I've had this beautiful print hanging in our home since late spring, and I truly adore it. I was lucky to snag the last one from Etsy. The lovely and talented Mandi @SolaceCreations does pyrography art, and this is a print of her piece, Maternal Spring. She genuinely brings me joy every day. I also love that the frame and matting were all upCycled from a hand me down left in our home by the former owner. It is the perfect compliment to the art.

Introducing "The Weight."
This is an original hand burned design on spalted maple. It's embellished with engraving, 24K gold leaf, and gold metallic watercolor (for the finer golden details).
Atlas carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, and in many ways, he reflects the unseen battles so many of us face. The heaviness, the endurance, the quiet strength it takes just to keep standing. This piece was created in honor of Suicide Awareness and Prevention β a reminder that even when the world feels unbearably heavy, we are not meant to carry it alone.
At the bottom, I placed a compass. To me, it represents hope, direction, and the promise that no matter how lost we feel, there is always a way forward.
This work is for anyone who has struggled with their mental health, for those who continue to endure, and for those we carry in our hearts. There is always light to be found, even when the road ahead looks dark. β€οΈ

A year ago this month, a dear friend lost her husband very unexpectedly.
She sent me two of his shirts and I made these memorial toss pillows so that she and their son can hug and squeeze him again.

I just want to add some thoughts to this that I didn't mention or elaborate on in this video:
- I've seen people say that AI is bad for the environment. I admittedly haven't researched that so I'm not sure what kind of evidence there is to back that up if there's any at all, but it's something I definitely want to look more into.
-I also feel like context matters when it comes to this topic. What it's being used for and how it's being used in the process, etc.
-Ultimately, I just don't think people should become even more lazy in their thinking. If AI proves to be a useful tool for you, then that's great... but just make sure that you don't become so reliant on it that you couldn't do the work yourself.
