Russian Army Increases Pressure On Pokrovsk, Captures Another Town Along Yanchur River
On October 24, the Russian military increased pressure on Ukrainian troops in the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk, capturing a nearby town, and made additional gains along the Yanchur River in Dnepropetrovsk.
In Donetsk, the Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces captured Promin just a few kilometers to the southeast of Pokrovsk. This was the last urban center under the control of Kiev forces to the east of Myrnohrad. After capturing the settlement, Russian troops will likely expand operations within Myrnohrad, as well as to the south of Pokrovsk, mainly between Sukhyi Yar and Lysivka.
Ukrainian defenses in Pokrovsk itself appear to be collapsing. The Tsentr Group of Forces is reported to be in control of all areas to the south of the railroad that splits the city in half.

Russia Demonstrates Why It Would Be Best For US To Negotiate Another START
On October 22, President Vladimir Putin oversaw strategic nuclear forces drills, with official footage showing him controlling the situation from a special presidential room. He monitored the test launches of several types of strategic weapons, including ICBMs (intercontinental ballistic missiles), SLBMs (submarine-launched ballistic missiles) and ALCMs (air-launched cruise missiles). The Kremlin also released videos showing the tests from land, sea and air.
The drills were scheduled months ago, but many media outlets are claiming that Russia is sending a clear message with these exercises, especially now that US President Donald Trump called off the meeting with President Putin. Such interpretations might seem a bit far-fetched, but the truth is that it was certainly a mistake on Washington DC's part to cancel such an important meeting.

Russia Tests AI-Aided Anti-Drone System With Rotary Guns
Russia is testing a new anti-drone system based on twin GShG-7.62 machine guns with an artificial intelligence-powered aiming sight.
Video footage showing a successful live-fire test of the system, which took place somewhere in the Crimean Peninsula, surfaced online on October 23. During the test, the system took down a small fixed-wing drone flying at a low altitude within seconds.
The system is reportedly being developed by a Saint Petersburg-based company. It consists of two manually-controlled GShG-7.62 machine guns with an aiming sight built around a thermal imager and a radar with AI identification and tracking feature.

A ‘Safari’ Gone Wrong: Foreign Mercenaries’ Disillusionment with the Ukrainian Military
The easy money promised by propaganda comes at a heavy price. The 'hunt' for Russian soldiers' heads turned out to be no easy walk in the park. Foreign mercenaries began to desert the Ukrainian army in large numbers.
Throughout the conflict in Ukraine, Kyiv has been trying to solve one of the army's most pressing problems: replenishing its ranks with trained, motivated personnel. Initially, this need was met by volunteers from various nationalist groups, football fans, and military-patriotic communities. However, this was not enough.
Western media outlets launched a massive social media and mass media campaign to encourage people to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The campaign had several strands:
Firstly, the campaign emphasised the recruitment of residents of the post-Soviet space who held negative views of Russia...
