The First 30 Days of Starbase - A Letter to Our Residents

To the Residents of Starbase,
Just over a month ago, your vote to incorporate the City of Starbase passed overwhelmingly. In that time, Starbase has done what few new cities ever manage: we’ve operated with speed, efficiency and purpose, and we’re just getting started.

From the moment the incorporation vote passed, we’ve been working hard to build and quickly establish our new community. Our entire team, including our city clerk, city administrator and city attorney, is using their practical experience in municipal operations to design a special place to live.

In the last few weeks, we’ve finalized the adoption of twenty ordinances, proposed an operating budget, launched a city website, and prioritized transparent communication with our residents, both online and in-person. With the vision to be a thriving spaceport community, we have approved more than 100 residential and commercial building permits, a quick pace for a brand-new city. We’ve also fit in some fun, like proclaiming May 29 as Starbase Day and designating an official city logo.

Today the city commission met to discuss the proposed zoning map and comprehensive zoning ordinance. These important documents not only provide an essential framework for our new city, but also reflect the careful planning required to meet both the demands of public safety and flexibility for future development. Starbase is a city like no other and because we have an active launch site, it’s critical we create a structure where industrial, commercial and residential interests can exist side by side.

We hope that you feel the momentum here at Starbase. Our goal to build a fully operational city within the first year is not only possible, but well underway. Together, we are creating a community full of opportunities and one we can all be proud to call home.

Reusability on Falcon and smart dispenser engineering have slashed the cost per kilogram to low Earth orbit (LEO) and boosted annual launch slots. This has lowered the barrier to entry for space startups, allowing them to test tech in orbit with just seed funding, giving hundreds of ideas a shot.

Starship will push this further, dramatically cutting cost per ton and increasing launch availability in the coming years. It’s like jumping from the Oregon Trail to 747 jet flights in under 20 years. Who’s ready for an entirely new era of human progress?!? Let’s gooo!
