KIDS DO THE DARNDEST QIYAS-ES

I prayed ʿaṣr with my kids today, and I overheard my daughter [7] mumbling away. After we were done, I said to her that she is not supposed to recite when she is praying with the imām. So she said, “Oh, I thought that was only when the imām is reciting aloud, and that when he is quiet, you are supposed to recite.” No darling, nice qiyās, I mean, nice try, but that’s an anomalous and aberrant riwāya from Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan. The Ẓāhir al-riwāya position is that there is no recitation in any prayer behind the imām—thank you and good night!
