I've often encountered comments in National Socialist circles and beyond regarding Goebbels' physical appearance, that which describe him as weird-looking, sickly or otherwise.

I'd like to add some commentary on the matter seeing as it is often brought up by detractors and enemies of the Third Reich:

Goebbels grew up in nothing short of abject poverty, he was raised in an industrial town by working-class parents. He never had adequate nutrition as a child, which stunted his growth. With modern science, we now know the importance of early nutrition, it can influence height and other physical attributes.

He also experienced various illnesses as a child, including inflammation of the lungs and a congenital disorder that deformed his foot, which is why he walked with a limp.

He had a rough upbringing, and perhaps would have appeared more well-formed if he had been born into more fortunate circumstances.

Nevertheless, what he lacked in physical endowment he made up for with his vast intellect.

Da hat man nicht mehr das Recht, vom «schwachen Geschlecht» zu sprechen, da beweisen beide Geschlechter die gleiche wilde Kampfentschlossenheit und Seelenstärke. Die Nation ist dazu bereit. Der Führer hat befohlen, und wir werden ihm folgen!'

'In the greatest crises and commotions of national life, not only do the true men prove themselves but also the true women. There, one no longer has the right to speak of the "weaker sex"; there, both sexes demonstrate the same wild fighting-determination and strength of soul. The nation is ready for them. The Führer has commanded, and we will follow him!'

'Im Uebrigen koennen unsere SA Maenner und Parteigenossen auch darueber beruhigt sein, dass eher als wir alle denken die Stunde des Endes des Roten Terrors gekommen sein wird. Es wird auch der sozialistischen Presse nicht gelingen die Dinge ins Gegenteil umzuluegen. Wenn die Rote Fahne, in tuepischer Juedischen Frechheit wagt zu behaupten, dass unser Kamerad Maikowski und der Polizeiwachtmeister Zauritz von unseren eigenen Kameraden erschossen worden ist, so muss ich sagen, diese Juedische Frechheit hat laenger gelebt als sie in Zukunft noch leben wird.'

If the Rote Fahne, in typical Jewish impudence, wagers to assert that our comrade, Maikowski, and the police-sergeant, Zauritz, were shot by our own comrades, then I must say: this Jewish impudence has lived longer than it will in the future!'

A lot of people know about Hitler's famous German Shepherd, Blondi, but before that, he had another dog called Muck.

Hitler and Muck were inseparable, until he was taken from Hitler after being deliberately poisoned by the communists.

These were the type of people that Hitler was dealing with - their irredeemably depraved and entirely bestial nature on full display.

'Thus we are, as from the first hour of our power onwards and throughout all the ten years, firmly and fraternally united with the German people. The most powerful confederate there is in this world - the people themselves - stand behind us and are determined with the Führer, whatever the cost may be, and even whilst taking on the severest sacrifices, to capture the victory pugnaciously. Which power in the world could now indeed hinder us from carrying through and fulfilling all that we have set ourselves as our goal? Now, we will and must succeed!'

'Through my window, the sun comes in. I stand and gaze out into the crystal-clear morning. Then, I let all my wishes and longings flutter down, like loose leaves, into the flourishing garden below.'

This is an important speech for understanding Britain's intentions towards Germany, and more importantly, understanding Goebbels, and his diary. Goebbels would have been acutely aware of such geopolitical posturing.

'Wir glauben aber vor allem an den Sieg, weil die deutsche Nation diesmal weiss, worum es geht! Sie umgibt sich in diesen harten Proben ihres politischen und militärischen Charakters mit einem Stahlpanzer gegen alle feindlichen Einflüsterungen und Versuchungen. Sie reichen nicht bis an unser ehernes Herz heran. Deshalb sind wir entschlossen, hart zu bleiben und verbissen zu arbeiten und zu kämpfen, bis der Sieg in unseren Händen ist.'

'Above all, however, we believe in victory because this time, the German nation knows what is at stake! In these hard tests of its political and military character, it surrounds itself with a steel armour against all hostile insinuations and temptations. They do not reach our iron heart. Therefore, we are determined to remain hard and to work and fight tenaciously until victory is in our hands'

Dr Goebbels visits an Orthodox Christian church in Norway, where he greets members of the Russian Liberation Army.

In 1943, Hitler spoke of 'den germanischen Staat der deutschen Nation'. The phrase cannot be translated into English, because English translates both 'germanisch' and 'deutsch' as 'German'.

The German nation is the Volk insofar they are ethnically unitary, whereas the German state is constituted by the Volk insofar as they are governmentally unitary.

'The Latin name Germania means "land of the Germani".' The term 'Germania' thus denotes the land of the German people.

The German (germanischer) state serves and is sustained by the German people (das deutsche Volk).
