What is Linguistic Secularism?
Linguistic secularism means equal respect for all languages in a country, without giving preference to any one language. In India, just like religious freedom, the Constitution protects linguistic diversity.
👉 No national language: Hindi is the official language of the Union, but states can choose their own.
👉 Article 29: Gives all citizens the right to protect their language, script, and culture.
👉 India’s diversity: 121 languages and 270 mother tongues (2011 Census).
👉 Key idea: No language should be imposed; every language deserves respect.
This helps preserve India’s unity in diversity and strengthens its secular fabric.

Latest Stats For Mains
Topic - 🔋 Clean Energy in India (July 2025)
1. Installed Clean Energy Capacity Hits 50% - India now sources 50% of its installed electric power capacity (484 GW) from non-fossil fuel sources, five years ahead of its Paris Agreement target.
2. But Actual Usage Still Below 30% - Despite high installed capacity, only less than 30% of actual electricity supplied is from clean energy.
Reason: Low Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF)
3. Clean sources like solar (CUF ~20%), wind (~25–30%) contribute less to real-time electricity due to limited availability and storage.
4. In contrast, coal (~60%) and nuclear (~80%) have higher CUF and supply more reliable power.
5. Coal Still Dominates - 50% of actual electricity comes from coal due to its availability throughout the day.

Reduce:
- Minimizing the generation of waste at the source.
- Example: Avoiding single-use plastics, buying only what is needed.
Reuse:
- Extending the life of products by using them multiple times instead of discarding them.
- Example: Reusing containers, clothes, and furniture.
Recycle:
- Converting waste materials into new, usable products to prevent resource wastage.
- Example: Recycling paper, plastic, metal, and glass.

Case Study For Water Scarcity related Essay
In Denganmal village, Maharashtra, extreme water scarcity has led to a unique social practice—men marrying multiple wives, known as "water wives," whose primary role is to fetch water from distant sources. While illegal, this form of polygamy is accepted locally as a survival strategy. These second or third wives, often widows or single mothers, gain shelter and social respect. The practice reflects deep infrastructural neglect and the severe impact of drought in rural India.
