India Unveils National Sports Policy 2025: Aiming for Global Sporting Powerhouse Status

he Union Cabinet has approved the "National Sports Policy (NSP) 2025," a transformative initiative designed to propel India into a global sporting powerhouse, with a strong focus on the 2036 Olympic Games. This new policy replaces the 2001 framework and is the result of extensive consultations across various stakeholders.

The NSP 2025 is built upon five core pillars:

1. Excellence on the Global Stage: Strengthening sports from grassroots to elite levels, nurturing talent, improving infrastructure, and enhancing athlete support and coaching.

2.Sports for Economic Development: Promoting sports tourism, manufacturing, startups, and private sector participation through PPPs and CSR.

3.Sports for Social Development: Ensuring inclusivity for women, economically weaker sections, tribal communities, and persons with disabilities, and promoting indigenous games.

4.Sports as a People's Movement: Driving mass participation, fitness culture through nationwide campaigns, and increasing access to facilities.

5.Integration with Education (NEP 2020): Incorporating sports into school curricula and providing specialized training for educators.
