REPORT: TYSON FOODS HAS DUMPED MILLIONS OF POUNDS OF TOXIC POLLUTANTS INTO U.S. RIVERS AND LAKES
Nitrogen, phosphorus, chloride, oil and cyanide among the 371m lb of pollutants released by just 41 plants in five years.

According to research by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), the contaminants were dispersed in 87bn gallons of wastewater – which also contains blood, bacteria and animal feces – and released directly into streams, rivers, lakes and wetlands relied on for drinking water, fishing and recreation. The UCS analysis is based on the most recent publicly available water pollution data Tyson is required to report under current regulations. The wastewater was enough to fill about 132,000 Olympic-size pools.

The water pollution from Tyson was spread across 17 states, but about half the contaminants were dumped into streams, rivers, lakes, and wetlands in Nebraska, Illinois and Missouri.

The findings of CIS highlight, "In March 2024, the foreign-born population reached 51.6 million, 5.1 million more than in March 2022—the largest two-year increase ever recorded in American History." CIS added in the report that this is approximately equal to the growth in the foreign-born population in the 9 years prior to COVID-19. Since President Joe Biden has taken office, the number of foreign-born people in the US has increased on record by 6.6 million in 39 months.

The CIS estimated that if the trend continues, the US foreign-born population will reach 62.5 and then 82.2 million by 2040.
