Military leaders of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DR Congo) said they have put down an attempted coup in a dramatic Sunday incident which included a large shootout erupting in the capital of Kinshasa.

At least three men have been reported killed, with two being police officers which engaged a team of armed attackers. The third deceased is said to be one of the gunman. A government spokesman has stated "The armed men attacked the Kinshasa residence of Vital Kamerhe, a federal legislator and a candidate for speaker of the National Assembly of DR Congo, but were stopped by his guards."

the whole murky incident is raising eyebrows in the West as the army says it has detained some suspects who hold US and Canadian passports.

A US-backed regime change operation just failed in the DR Congo. The blob is getting desperate following the loss of Niger and other African states, which prefer independence and the freedom of self-determination. We're seeing the same things going on in Eastern Europe and South America.

The US used to have a reasonable pretense for these regime change operations -- bringing "freedom and democracy" to people opposed to the Soviets.

But that was a lie.

In a lot of cases, the regimes backed by the US were worse than anything backed by the Soviets -- Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge was backed by the US to fight against the USSR-backed Viet Cong, who were just a bunch of rice farmers tired of having their resources stolen from them by the French.

Following the fall of the USSR, these regime change operations haven't stopped. They're more intense than ever. The so-called Arab Spring and the Euromaidan in Ukraine both come to mind. There's no more "we're just the good guys fighting communism and bringing democracy" pretense to hide behind anymore.

It's a good thing the DR Congo coup didn't succeed, because they've never been particularly successful at implementing stable governments following bloody regime change operations.

If you think about it, these regime change operations are unnatural, in that nobody who actually lives there wants them to happen, so they (very naturally) lead to civil wars and strife, or completely failed states in some cases -- as in the case of Libya, Somalia and Haiti.

American businesses and individuals are fantastic, but this clandestine regime change nonsense is anything but. They're not the good guys.
