It's become almost impossible not to resent the reprobates who are obnoxious enough to do this as much as the system that helped create them.

π The illegal theft of Irish land:
The Land Act of 1965 stated that non-irish citizens couldn't benefit from non-urban land in #Ireland. Much like the offshore and domestic scams carried out by the 'City of #London', the government turned a blind eye and kept next to no records.

1895 - A shoeless young man seeks refreshment in #Manchester from a water fountain at Bank Top, which was the name once given to the short length of London Road near Piccadilly station where Granby Row joins it. I bet this chap didn't complain as much as people do today.

It wasn't just you wasn't there,
But that you knew you could.
Nor is it that I do not care,
But that you never would.

1975 - The quiant nature of post-war prefabricated homes and the charming people who moved into them. Many of the people whose homes had been destroyed in the war didn't even have indoor toilets. Some houses had multiple families cramped into one house. So, at the time, these little boxes, with their own private gardens and amenities, would have seemed like a palace.
The Excalibur Estate which ChelseaDan5 and myself visited before some of the prefabs were destroyed to make room for modern flats still sits in #Catford, South #London and was built by prisoners of war during wartime (WW2). Listen to these wonderful people who clearly feel a great sense of togetherness and contentment in their safe, charming little community. If you can, I suggest getting down to Catford to see the remaining homes before they and their memory disappear. Their like are seen no more.
