✞✞✞On this day we commemorate our Lady the Virgin Mary✞✞✞

✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞

✞✞✞This feast is one of the Thirty Three Feasts of our Lady. And on this day, our Lord Jesus Christ brought forth from where His Holy Mother stood, from under her feet, a holy spring.

=>If asked how that happened, it was as follows.

✞The Virgin Mary carrying her Divine Son, in flight, reached the land of Egypt. And at the time, hunger and thirst were among the difficulties that she faced. Someone who has passed through hunger and thirst knows how hard they are even for a person staying at home let alone for a person in flight (fleeing persecution).

✞And that is why the Scholar in his anaphora (The Anaphora of St. Mary No. 169) said,
“O Virgin, remind Him of [the] hunger, thirst, poverty, sadness and all the trouble which you did suffer together with Him.” 

✞One day in their flight, from where they rested under a tree and were sheltered from the scorching sun, our Lady went to beg for water. She asked much but no one gave her even a drop and she came back in sadness. And when she returned, she found that her Son’s shoes were taken by bandits.

✞And at that instant, she bitterly wept saying, “I could not find You water and on top of that I had Your shoe stolen.” As the author had said,

“Mary, the turtledove, said in tears,
‘None of the country’s men want righteousness.
I asked them for water but they did not give me a little even
And I lost my Son’s shoe which is golden.’”

✞And her Son, Who saw this, blessed the ground which she stood on and a life giving holy spring sprang. And our Lord, our Lady, Joseph, and Salome drank from it.

✞And when they left that area, the spring became bitter for the residents but sweet/healing for guests. As the hymnist had said (in The Lamentations of the Virgin – “Seqoqawe Dengel”),
“So the inhabitants cannot drink, He made the water bitter.
And for those coming from afar, He made it a sweet cure”

✞Hundreds of years later, where the Lord sprang forth a holy healing spring and where our Lady the Virgin stood, a Church was built in the name of the Mother of Light and was consecrated (El-Mahammah). And the holy spring continues to bless and heal.

✞✞✞The Feast of the Holy Spring/Water✞✞✞
=>Also on this day is commemorated the Feast of the Holy Spring/Water. Though the Church always teaches about the healing abilities of holy springs, she gives more emphasis on this day.

✞God can heal with or without other means. Without other means, He just says “Heal” and restores by Himself or by working through His servants’ words. Or He can heal by other means like by the ash from the censer – incense ash, by holy springs, or while His holy word is heard, or when a person is blessed/touched by the Cross and Holy Books or by the bodies of the saints (by their cloth, staffs, shadows, relics etc. . .).

✞As He is God, He heals by what He loves and choses. (2Kgs. 5:10, Acts 3:6/ 5:15/ 19:11) 

✞Today, the healing gifts of the holy springs are preached with weight. (John 5:2/9:7)

✞✞✞May the God of the Saints keep us from the ailments of the soul and the afflictions of the body by His mercy. And may He grant us from the blessings of our Lady the Virgin.

🌿ብፁዕ አባ አቡነ ተክለ ሃይማኖት ዘኤለ ገዳማተ እምኀበ እግዚኡ ይነሣእ እሴተ ቦአ ሀገረ ደብረ ሊባኖስ በፍሥሐ ወበሰላም።

⚜ሰአል ለነ ጊዮርጊስ ኀበ እግዚአብሔር ወጸሊ በእንቲአነ ሐረድዎ ወገመድዎ ወዘረዉ ሥጋሁ ከመ ሐመድ ወወሰድዎ ኀበ ሰብአ ነገሥት ረገጸ ምድረ አንሥአ ሙታነ አባ ጊዮርጊስ በሰላም ዐደወ መንግሥተ ክብር ወረሰ።

††† እንኳን ለታላቁ ነቢይ ቅዱስ ሳሙኤል ዓመታዊ የዕረፍት በዓል በሰላም አደረሳችሁ፣ አደረሰን። †††

††† በስመ አብ ወወልድ ወመንፈስ ቅዱስ አሐዱ አምላክ አሜን! †††

††† ነቢዩ ቅዱስ ሳሙኤል †††

††† እሥራኤል ከግብጽ ባርነት ወጥተው ከነዓንን ከወረሱበት ዘመን ጀምረው መሳፍንትና ካህናት ያስተዳድሯቸው ነበር:: በወቅቱ ታዲያ ክህነት ከምስፍና ተስማምቶለት ኤሊ የተባለ ሊቀ ካህናትና ልጆቹ (አፍኒና ፊንሐስ) ያስተዳድሩ ጀመር::

በዘመኑ ደግሞ ማኅጸኗ ተዘግቶባት ዘወትር የምታለቅስ ሐና የሚሏት ደግ ሴት ነበረች:: እግዚአብሔር የእርሷን ጸሎትና የሊቀ ካህናቱን ምርቃት ሰምቷልና ቅዱስ ልጅን ሰጣት:: "ሳሙኤል" አለችው:: "ልመናየን አምላክ ሰማኝ" ማለት ነውና::

ሐና ስዕለቷን ትፈጽም ዘንድ ሳሙኤልን በሦስት ዓመቱ ለቤተ እግዚአብሔር ሰጠችው:: በዚያም ስብሐተ እግዚአብሔርን እየሰማ : ማዕጠንቱን እያሸተተ : ከደብተራ ኦሪቱ ሳይለይ በሞገስ አደገ:: የኤሊ ልጆች (አፍኒና ፊንሐስ) ግን በበደል ላይ በደልን አበዙ::

ወቅቱ የአሁኑን ዘመን ይመስል ነበር:: ሁሉም ሰው ክፋተኛ የሆነበት በመሆኑ : እግዚአብሔር ርቆ ስለ ነበር ትንቢትና ራዕይ ብርቅ ነበር:: አምላክ ተቆጥቷልና ሳሙኤልን በሌሊት ሦስት ጊዜ ጠራው:: ነቢዩም ታጥቆ የፈጣሪውን ቃል ሰማ:: በዚሕም የተነሳ ታቦተ ጽዮን ለመጀመሪያ ጊዜ በአሕዛብ ተማረከች:: ከሰላሳ አራት ሺ በላይ ሕዝብ በኢሎፍላውያን አለቀ:: አፍኒና ፊንሐስም ተገደሉ:: ኤሊም ወድቆ ሞተ::

ከዚህች ቀን በኋላ ቅዱስ ሳሙኤል በእሥራኤል ላይ ነቢይና መስፍን ሆኖ ተሾመ:: በዘመኑ ሁሉ እንደሚገባው እየኖረ : የእግዚአብሔርን ለእሥራኤል : የእሥራኤልን ለእግዚአብሔር ሲያደርስ ኑሯል:: ሕዝቡ ንጉሥ በፈለጉ ጊዜ ሳዖልን ቀብቶ አነገሠላቸው:: እርሱ (ሳዖል) እንደ ሕጉ አልሔደምና ፈጣሪ ናቀው::

ሳሙኤል ግን ደግ አባት ነውና ክፋተኛውን (ሳዖልን) ከጌታው ጋር ያስታርቅ ዘንድ ብዙ ደከመ:: አለቀሰም:: እግዚአብሔር ግን ሳሙኤልን:- "አትዘን! እንደ ልቤ የሆነ : ፈቃዴን የሚፈጽም ዳዊትን አግኝቸዋለሁና እርሱን በእሥራኤል ላይ አንግሠው" አለው:: ቅዱስ ሳሙኤልም ወደ ቤተ ልሔም ሔዶ : ከእሴይ ልጆችም መርጦ ልበ አምላክ ዳዊትን ቀባው : አነገሠውም::

ቅዱስ ሳሙኤል በተረፈው ዘመኑ ለፈጣሪው እየተገዛ ኑሯል:: ነቢዩ ዘወትር ከእጁ የሽቱ ሙዳይና የቅብዐት እቃ (ቀንድ) አይለይም ነበረ:: እነዚህም የድንግል ማርያም ምሳሌዎች ናቸውና አባ ሕርያቆስ :-
"ሙዳየ ዕፍረት ወቀርነ ቅብዕ ዘሳሙኤል" ብሎ አመስግኗታል::
ነቢዩም በወገኖቹ መካከል በዚሕች ቀን አርፏል:: እሥራኤልም አልቅሰውለታል::

††† ዳግመኛ በዚህ ቀን ቅዱስ ሉክያኖስ ይታሠባል::
በቀደመ ሕይወቱ ጣዖት አምላኪና አጣኝ የነበረው ቅዱሱ ማንም ሳያስተምረው ክርስቲያኖቹን በመመልከት ብቻ አምኗል:: የወቅቱ ክርስቲያኖች አኗኗራቸው : ትጋታቸው : ጽናታቸውና ፍቅራቸው እንዲሁ ይስብ ነበር::

ከእነርሱ እምነት መውጣቱን የተመለከቱ ኢ-አማንያን አታልለው ሊመልሱት ሞከሩ:: እንቢ ቢላቸው በድንጋይ ጥርሱን አረገፉት:: ደሙን አፈሰሱ:: አሁንም በሃይማኖተ ክርስቶስ በመጽናቱ በዚሕ ቀን (ሰኔ 9) ከቀኑ ስድስት ሰዓት ላይ በመስቀል ላይ ሰቅለው ገድለውታል::

✞✞✞On this day we commemorate the Departure of Saint Samuel the Great Prophet✞✞✞

✞✞✞In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen!✞✞✞

✞✞✞The Holy Prophet Samuel✞✞✞

=>From the time Israel were set free from bondage in Egypt and inherited Canaan, they were ruled by Judges and Priests. At the time (when Samuel came to be), an archpriest named Eli having both priesthood and judgeship together with his sons (Hophni and Phinehas) started ruling [over Israel].

✞In that period lived also a woman named Hannah who cried daily because she was barren. And as God had heard her cries and the archpriest’s blessing, He gave her a holy child. And she called him “Samuel” which meant “God heard my petitions.”

✞Afterwards, Hannah gave Samuel, at 3 years of age, to the House of God to fulfill her vow. There, he grew in grace, listening to the praises due God, sensing the incense, and without departing from the Tabernacle. However, the sons of Eli (Hophni and Phinehas) went on adding wickedness atop wickedness.

✞And the era became like that of ours today. Because everyone was wicked, prophecy and revelation were not frequent and were precious. And since God was angered, He called Samuel three times in one night. And the Prophet stood up and readily listened to the Word of his Creator. And because of this [God’s judgment/wrath] the Arc of the Covenant was taken by the gentiles for the first time. More than 34 thousand people including Hophni and Phinehas were killed by Philistines. And Eli fell and died as well.

✞And after that day, St. Samuel was ordained as the prophet and judge of Israel. And he lived as supposed, and in delivering God’s Word to Israel, and Israel’s [entreaty] to God. And when the people wanted a king, he anointed and installed Saul as their King. Nevertheless, Saul, did not walk according to the law [of God]. Hence, the Creator disregarded him.

✞And because Samuel was a kind father, he tried hard, and cried to reconcile the wicked (Saul) with God. However, God said to Samuel, “Do not grief! I have found David a man after mine own heart, who shall fulfil all my will. Install him king.” (Adapted from Acts 13:22) Thus, St. Samuel went to Bethlehem, and chose from the sons of Jesse, David, a man after God’s own heart, and anointed and crowned him king.

✞St. Samuel then lived the rest of his life obeying God. The prophet always had in his hand a vessel of perfume and a horn for oil. And because they were the symbols of the Virgin Mary, Abba Heryakos said in venerating her;
“[You, Virgin Mary, are] the bottle of ointment and horn of oil of Samuel” (Anaphora of St. Mary no. 34)

✞The prophet died among his people on this day. And the Israelites wept for him. 

✞✞✞Saint Lucianus/Lucilianus✞✞✞
=>Also on this day is commemorated St. Lucianus.

✞The Saint was an idol worshipper and a thurifer of the idols in his earlier life. He came to faith by just seeing Christians and without being preached to by anyone. And that was because the life, diligence, perseverance, and love of the then Christians was striking.
  
✞And the non-believers, who saw that the Saint had left from their faith, tried to lure and convert him back. But when he refused, they shattered his teeth with rocks and shed his blood. And because he continued and persisted in believing in Christ, they nailed and killed him on a cross at 12:00 noon on this day (Senne 9/June 16).

✞✞✞May the God of the Saints grant us from their blessings.
