I LOVE this comic

I think a lot of us struggle with a very romanticized version of what community is. We want the Stardew Valley life. We want the idyllic vision of a super interconnected system of trading and bartering.

A community really is nothing more than a system of relationships. You DO foster community by hosting parties, or meetups or gatherings. It might not sound as impactful as like, hosting an activist workshop at your local makerspace but having fun with other people is SO important to making strong connections.

I host monthly game nights for my friends then I also host a munch (a kinkster meetup in a vanilla location) every month, rotating on a three-month system of a casual lunch, a crafting day at the library (because I can check out those spaces fo' freeeee) and then a low-key meetup in my backyard.

I get this gut feeling sometimes of not doing enough because I'm not doing like, fundraisers or workshops but I DO know that having my game nights helps my friends get out of the house and socialize and meet new people, and that's really all building community is.
