Astronomers may have discovered the smallest and heaviest white dwarf star ever seen, a smoldering ember about the size of our moon but 450,000 times more massive than Earth, a new study finds.
The newfound white dwarf, designated ZTF J1901+1458, is located about 130 light-years from Earth and may be an example of what can happen when white dwarf pairs merge. If the white dwarfs were more massive, they would explode in a powerful thermonuclear explosion known as a Type Ia supernova. However, if their combined masses fell below a certain threshold, they could form a new white dwarf heavier than either of its parents, which is what scientists think happened in the case of ZTF J1901+1458.

Quantum mechanics and gravity don’t mix
Einstein’s theory of general relativity tells us how the universe works on a large scale, while quantum mechanics explains how atoms, molecules and fundamental particles interact. The trouble is the two ideas don’t fit together. Reconciling the two theories is one of the biggest challenges facing modern physics.

A black hole can be formed by the death of a massive star. When such a star has exhausted the internal thermonuclear fuels in its core at the end of its life, the core becomes unstable and gravitationally collapses inward upon itself, and the star’s outer layers are blown away. The crushing weight of constituent matter falling in from all sides compresses the dying star to a point of zero volume and infinite density called the singularity.

Sound is the term to describe what is heard when sound waves pass through a medium to the ear. All sounds are made by vibrations of molecules through which the sound travels. For instance, when a drum or a cymbal is struck, the object vibrates. These vibrations make air molecules move. See the fact file below for more information about sound.

What is a Blue Moon?
The moon can sometimes appear reddish especially during eclipses. But what we call a Blue Moon has nothing to do with its color.
There are actually two different types of Blue Moon.
1) Monthly Blue Moon:-
The second full Moon in a calendar month that contains two full Moons.
2) Seasonal Blue Moon:-
The third full Moon in a season (the period between an equinox and a solstice, or vice versa) that contains four full Moons. This is the original scientific definition.
The August 22 full moon will be considered a Seasonal Blue Moon. In this case, it will be the third full moon of summer.
The moon can actually appear blue under certain circumstances, such as when ash is present in the atmosphere from fires or volcanic eruptions.
But blue-colored moons in photos like this one are usually made using filters or in a post-processing program such as Photoshop. Usually … but not always.
