To me, out of the 4 IELTS skills, one’s score in the reading section is a strong indicator of their general level of English.

What is your current Reading score (approximately)?

I have always said the conversion table for Listening and Reading varies from one version to another. I have kind of guessed there is a possibility of a 9.0 even for 38 correct answers if the test version is unusually difficult, but this is unexpected 🫣 (36 => 9.0).

This scores breakdown belongs to one of our instructors, and I can’t even imagine how difficult the listening section must’ve been on that day, or it can simply be a typo. Maybe here they mistyped 36 instead of 39.

What do you think?

Pay attention to how she says β€œWhat are you, 8?” part, and write in the comments how it sounds like.

As for the meaning, what do we usually say in Uzbek if we want to convey the same meaning?

By the way, the GALA training video is out! Go watch it, but it is too long, so you can pick the parts that interest you! For example, I talked about building an effective paragraph for task 2. I made my talk centered around that topic only, 100% free from personal advertisement. And I was the last one to present, so the audience was pretty exhausted from sitting there for 5-6 hours.
Anyways, enjoy the talk and let me know what you think of it.

Unfortunately, my slides do not look clear in the video for some reason, but if you like the presentation and want to access my slides, let me know in the comments under the video (on YouTube) and I will try to make it publicly accessible.

For decades, experts have said that less is more when it comes to dairy fat and health. But recent research has called this into question.

#GuessTheIDIOM

Definition:

The idiom "not see the wood for the trees" refers to an inability to grasp the big picture due to overemphasis on details. It means being so involved or concerned with the specifics or intricacies that one fails to understand the overall situation or broader context.

Example sentence 1

While John was so focused on perfecting each slide of his presentation, he didn't see the wood for the trees and missed the main goal of the project.

Example sentence 2

Not seeing the wood for the trees is one of biggest mistakes some IELTS candidates make by focusing too much on minor details and ignoring the general trend
.

P.S. In American English, it is more common to use forest instead of wood:

β€œNot see the forest for the trees”, but the meaning is the same.
