የኢንተርን ሀኪም ማስታወሻ

ሰሞኑን የጤናውን ዘርፍ በተመለከተ እየተካሄደ ባለው ሀገራዊ ንቅናቄ ምክንያት ከስራ ገበታዬ ተነስቼ ወደ ቤት ተመልሻለው። ዛሬ አድማው ከተጀመረ 12ተኛ ቀኑን ይዟል።
ከእሁድ እስከ እሁድ ሩጫ የማያጣው የሀኪምን ህይወት ገና Internship ገብቼ ከተቀላቀልኩ 1 ወር እንዳስቆጠርኩ "በስተመጨረሻ የማይለመድ ነገር የለም" ብዬ ራሴን አሳምኜ የተቀበልኩትን የቀን እና የNight Duty ህይወት በድንገት አቋርጬ ከጊቢም ተፈናቅዬ ራሴን አገኘሁት።
አእምሮዬም ከለመደው routine አዋዋል ሲያፈነግጥ አንዴ Anxitety አንዴ Depression እያሰኘው ነበር የመጀመሪያውን ሳምንት።
ለነገሩ እውነቱን እኮ ነው። ልጄ ደረሰችልኝ ብሎ ዳቦ ቆርሶ መርቆ የላከኝን ቤተሰብ በወሩ "ስራ አቆምንኮ" ማለቱ ቀፍፎኝ ነበር። ደግሞስ ለምን አልጨነቅም? ለጤና ስርዐቱ እና ሙያተኞቹ ግድ የማይሰጠው አመራር ስር ሆነን የነገን ህይወት ለማቀድ ሲከብደን እንዴት አያያስበኝም? ደግሞስ የእንጀራ ጉዳይ ሆኖ በሀገር የታወጀውን አድማ ስንቀላቀል አንዴ "ጊቢ ለቃችሁ ውጡ" አንዴ "ትታሰራላችሁ" ወይ በDismissal ማስፈራሪያ ከየቦታው ሲያሰሙን እንዴት አልሸበርም?

እናም የተጀመረው ሀገራዊ የጤና ባለሙያ ንቅናቄ ለብርቱ አላማ እንደሆነ አምናለሁ። ከዚህም ጋራ ተያይዞ ከቤታቸው በእኩለ ለሊት በገፍ ተወስደው እንደ ወንጀለኛ የታሰሩትን Resident ሃኪሞችን የጋራ አላማ ሲባል ከሞቀ ቤታቸው ወደ ሚጎረብጠው ፖሊስ ጣቢያ ማቆያ ሲወረወሩ ሁሉም ሀኪሞች ልባችን አብሯቸው ደምቷል። እዛ አንድ ቀን ማደር እንኳን ለማሰብ ይከብዳል። እነሱ ግን (ጎንደሮች) የተወሰኑ ቀናትን በፅናት ቆይተው በቅርብ ተፈተዋል የሚለውን ዜና በመስማቴ ትንሽ እፎይታ ተሰማኝ። ለእኛ እና ለመጪው ትውልድ ብለው መስዋትነት እየከፈሉ ያሉትን በየከተማው ያሉትን የጤና ባለሙያዎች እግዚአብሄር ያክብርልኝ። ይሄም ቀን ያልፋልና ሁላችንንም የተሻለ ቀን ላይ አድርሶ እንዲያሳየን ምኞቴ ነው።

የኢትዮጵያ ህክምና ባለሞያዎች ጥያቄ ፤ እንዴት መልስ ያገኝ ይሆን? የጤና ባለሞያ የሚሰጠዉ አገልግሎት ዉድ እና እጅግ መሰረታዊ ነዉ። የግል የጤና ተቋማት እድገትና ብዛት የህብረተሰቡን የጤና ጥበቃ ፍላጎት እድገት ያሳያል። ይህ ከሆነ መንግስት ለዚህ ወሳኝ ዘርፍ ባለሞያዎች እየሰጠ ያለዉ ትኩረት ምን ይመስላል? የህክምና ባለሞያዎጤ ጥያቄ እንዴት መልስ ያግኝ? የታሰሩት የህክምና ባለሞያዎች ጉዳይ?

To Whom It May Concern,

Declaration of professional limitations in patient care and non-acceptance of the Senate decision due to the ongoing crisis:

We, the senior physicians of the Internal Medicine Department at SPHMMC, feel compelled to formally voice our grave concerns regarding the current crisis, which has severely compromised our ability to deliver safe, ethical, and effective medical care, as well as the Senate decision that does not encourage the return of striking staff.

The nationwide strike involving interns, general practitioners, residents, and trained nurses has critically disrupted hospital operations, creating an unsustainable environment in which basic standards of patient care and safety can no longer be upheld.

Current Unacceptable Conditions:

1. Lack of Interns and Residents: The absence of these frontline providers has left a dangerous gap in patient monitoring, reporting, and primary management.

2. Critical Nurse Shortages: The severe shortage of experienced nurses has led to delays and deficiencies in essential procedures, including IV placements, wound care, vital sign monitoring, and medication administration.

3. Unmanageable Patient Load: The current patient volume exceeds 2–3 times the safe capacity for senior physicians working without adequate support.

4. Disorganized Ward Conditions: Continuity of care, proper documentation, and follow-up processes have deteriorated significantly.

5. Staff Exhaustion: The remaining personnel are experiencing extreme fatigue and burnout, heightening the risk of medical errors.

6. Limited Multidisciplinary Support: Access to vital services—such as radiology, laboratory follow-ups, physiotherapy, and interdepartmental consultations—has been severely restricted.

7. Senate Decision: The Senate decision dated 15/2017 EC does not encourage the striking team to return to their placements.
Our Position:

Given these dire circumstances, we hereby declare the following:

- While it is legally permissible for professionals to strike in defense of their rights, the dismissal of interns, general practitioners, residents, and trained nurses by SPHMMC is both unjust and unacceptable by any standard.

- As we acknowledge the grievances driving the strike, we cannot ethically accept new admissions under the present conditions, as doing so would violate our professional obligations and endanger patient safety.

- We cannot assume responsibility for patient outcomes under these circumstances, as adequate monitoring and timely interventions are impossible.

- Our services will be restricted to life-threatening emergencies only, where any delay would pose an immediate risk to survival.

- We will not perform non-emergency procedures or elective consultations until safe staffing levels and clinical conditions are restored.

- We demand full legal protection from administrative, legal, or criminal liability for adverse outcomes occurring during this crisis.

- Unless immediate negotiations resume, we may be forced to withdraw and stop from our duties entirely.

Our Final Stand:

As senior physicians, our primary duty is to First, do no harm. Continuing routine care under these conditions would breach this fundamental principle. This declaration is not a refusal to serve but a necessary measure to prevent further harm to patients and protect ourselves from unjust legal consequences.

Our Demands:

We urgently call upon the Ministry of Health and all relevant authorities to:

1. Immediately initiate negotiations and encouragement with striking staff to restore normal hospital operations with out prerequisite.

2. Provide clear guidance and legal assurances to remaining senior staff acting in good faith under these unsafe conditions.

3. Ensure no disciplinary actions are taken against healthcare professionals prioritizing patient safety.

አንድ ዶክተር በመሠረት ሚድያ ኢሜይል በኩል ይህን አጋርቶኝ ማለፍ ከበደኝ! ይነበብ!

"ሰላም ጤና ይስጥልኝ! አንድ ሁሌ የማስበውን ነገር ላጋራችሁ፣ ይህም ምን ያክል የጤና ስርዓታችን እጅግ የወደቀ እና የተበላሸ እንደሆነ ማሳያ ነው።

እኔ በአንድ የሀገራችን ትልቅ ሆስፒታል ሬዚደንት ሀኪም ነኝ። የምንሰራቸው ቀዶ ህክምናዎች አብዛኛውን ጊዜ ረዥም ሰዓት የሚወስዱ ናቸው። አንድ ቀን ግን በጣም ረዥም ሰዓት ነበር የወሰደብን፣ ማለትም 18 ሰዓት ነበር የፈጀው። አስባችሁታል ለ18 ሰዓት ያለ እረፍት ቆመን የረባ ቁርስም ሳንበላ፣ ምሳም እራትም ሳንቀምስ ሌሊት 9 ሰዓት ነበር የወጣነው።

ከዛ ምን እንደፈለግን ታውቃላችሁ በጣም? ከምግብ  ይልቅ ውሃ ! ውሃ! ግን ከየት ይገኛል በዛ ሌሊት? የትም! የሰውነታችን ፈሳሽ ስላለቀ ራሱ ከንፈራችን ተሰነጣጥቆ ነበር። እና ታካሚያችንን ወደ ICU ካስገባን በኋላ ትንሽ ጋደም እንበል ብለን ገባን ወደ ዲዩቲ ሩም። ከዛ አንድ ነገር በአእምሮዬ እየተመላለሰ አላስተኛ አለኝ። ምን ዓይነት ጨካኝ ሀገር ላይ ነን ግን? አልኩኝ።
- ካድሬውን በየስብሰባው፣ በየቢሮው 15 ደቂቃም ይሰብሰብ በየጠረጴዛው ቆሎ፣ ውሃ ብፌ ምግብ ቁርጥ ስጋ የሚያቀርብ፣ በቢራ በውስኪ የሚያራጭ እኔንና ጓደኞቼን በጠኔ የሚደፋ

- ይባሱኑ ረብጣ ረብጣ አበል የሚከፍል ለኔና ጓደኞቼ ሲሆን መቀነቱ ባዶ የሚሆን፣ ጉልበቱም የሚደክመው እና ንፉግነቱን የሚያሳየኝ ለምን ይሆን?

-ሌላ ሌላውንስ ውስጡን ለቄስ፣ በእውነት እስኪ ፍረዱኝ ጥያቄዬ የህግም ብቻ ሳይሆን የህሊና ፍርድ ይሻል።

Health Students Join the Struggle for Fair Treatment of Ethiopian Health Professionals

Ethiopia, 17/09/2017 E.C – In light of the ongoing struggle faced by Ethiopian health professionals, we, the Ethiopian Health Students Movement (EHSM), wish to announce our solidarity with their cause, effective immediately.

Over the past two weeks, health professionals across Ethiopia have engaged in a full strike, driven by the urgent need for fair compensation that reflects the cost of living. Many professionals have reported that their salaries are insufficient to cover basic necessities such as food and shelter. This dire situation has led them to raise fundamental questions about survival and the right to a dignified life.

Prior to initiating their full strike, health professionals issued a one-month countdown to the government, requesting meaningful discussions regarding their grievances. Unfortunately, their calls went unanswered, leading to a partial strike. In response, the government resorted to forceful measures, including arrests and physical confrontations with health professionals, which are in clear violation of their rights.

As health students, we recognize that the fight for fair wages and working conditions for health professionals is intrinsically linked to our future as practitioners in this field. Their struggle is our struggle, and we cannot stand idly by while our future colleagues face such challenges.

Our Demands:

1. We call upon the government to engage in constructive dialogue with the representatives appointed by the Ethiopian Health Professionals Movement (EHPM) to address their demands for fair wages and improved working conditions.

2. To our future colleagues, we stand beside you in this fight. This is not just about salaries; it’s about survival. Never give up! We appreciate your relentless efforts to reform this broken health system.

3. To all Ethiopian health students: it is time to break our silence and join the fight alongside our healers. They have faced torture, arrest, and violence while striving to improve our healthcare system for tomorrow. Let us unite and lead this movement together for a better future.

4. To the public: Ethiopian health professionals have served you tirelessly for many years, often without adequate food or housing. It is crucial for the Ethiopian people to understand and stand alongside the EHPM as they fight for these fundamental rights—a fair question of bread and hope.

We urge the government to engage in constructive dialogue with the representatives appointed by EHPM. It is imperative that we work together to ensure a sustainable and equitable healthcare environment for all.
