PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE atau disebut juga PRESENT PROGRESSIVE TENSE digunakan untuk menyatakan aktivitas yang sedang berlangsung saat ini. Jadi, aktivitas tersebut sudah dilakukan di masa lampau dan belum berakhir ketika percakapan sedang berlangsung.
Rumus:
( + ) S + to be + Verb-ing
( - ) S + to be + not + Verb-ing
( ? ) To be + S + Verb-ing
Contoh:
( + ) Luke is doing his homework.
( - ) Luke is not doing his homework.
( ? ) Is Luke doing his homework?
Rumus:

Salah satu ciri Present Continuous Tense terletak pada keterangan waktu (adverb of time). Keterangan waktu yang biasa digunakan dalam Present Continuous Tense diantaranya:

Penggunaan Present Continuous Tense
1. Menyatakan aktivitas yang sedang terjadi
Contoh: I am eating ice cream now.
2. Menyatakan aktivitas yang sudah direncanakan dan akan terjadi di masa depan
Contoh: I am flying to London on next Saturday.
3. Menyatakan sebuah perubahan atau perkembangan yang sedang berlangsung untuk waktu yang lama
Contoh: Recent evidence suggests that the economic situation is improving.
4. Menyatakan aktivitas yang menjadi rutinitas sementara selama jangka waktu tertentu. Biasanya ditandai dengan adanya keterangan waktu seperti these days, these weeks atau these months.
Contoh: I'm not drinking much coffee these days.
