[3rd Anniversary of June 12 Protest: We are All in One]

”Today, we commemorate the protesters in 2019 in Hong Kong.

We think of the young and courageous activists, who, without hesitation, risked their lives for freedom and democracy. And thus became role models for the world.

We must never forget how the Chinese regime has repeatedly acted in violation of international law and destroyed a vibrant civil society before our very eyes.

As a Tibetan, I stand in solidarity with the Hongkongers.

It is not an option to keep our mouth shut about the atrocities from the Chinese Communist Party. It is about millions of people in Tibet, Hong Kong, East Turkestan, Taiwan, and Southern Mongolia, who are fighting for their basic human rights and for the survival of their identity.“

Germany Stands with Hong Kong

Another year has just passed. Siu Lum and Ah Dai are afflicted with the usual ailments of old age. They await death—a natural occurrence that is a part of life. But 30 years ago, their son Chit met an unnatural death. Even today, many unanswered questions still surround the incident. The two set an ambitious goal: On 35th May, they’ll hold a proper gravesite ritual for their son.

When “4th June” (Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989) became the date that must not be named and cannot be searched online in China, 35th May seems to be the only way out.

On the 30th anniversary of the “June Fourth Incident”, which is also the fateful year of 2019 Hong Kong protests. For 30 years, the Victoria Park in Hong Kong was packed with thousands of people for the June Fourth vigils. It was both a traumatic and enlightening experience for many Hongkongers to engage with social movements.
As a highly acclaimed and award-winning stage performance, Germany Stands with Hong Kong is honored to bring its recording to the Berlin public in June 2023, in the hope of raising the awareness of the ongoing brutal and totalitarian suppression by the Beijing government on those who fight for freedom.
In Deutschland — [Global action: Request “Glory to Hong Kong” on German radio stations]
On June 6, Hong Kong government sought a court injunction prohibiting the protest anthem, “Glory to Hong Kong” (願榮光歸香港) to perform or play in public. The act is a clear violation of free speech and human rights. As Hongkongers, we do not submit to the authoritarian rule. Joining Hongkongers globally, we’re now launching a broadcasting campaign to play the anthem on radios around the world.

During the 2019-20 Hong Kong protests, the song “Glory to Hong Kong” was widely spread to show our yearning for democracy and freedom. Now with implementation of National Security Law, the government’s attempt to ban the song is a serious disregard of freedom of expression. Therefore, we’re launching the broadcasting campaign to show solidarity with the people of Hong Kong, and to condemn the government's repressive actions.

We call on all our freedom-loving friends to help spread the song in June. You can contact your local radio hosts to explain the campaign for “Glory to Hong Kong" and the threat to free speech in Hong Kong. With the spread of the song, we hope to raise awareness of human rights issues, and to highlight the significance of upholding freedom and democracy.

“What are the challenges journalists face when covering the increasingly challenging global crisis of war, civil disobedience, famine and hunger? Witnessing acts of government crackdown and injustice, should they remain objective? What are their choices when the government turns against them?
„Rather be Ashes than Dust“ is a first person documentary chronicling a journalist-filmmaker’s struggle with his conscience while witnessing intense police brutality against protesters during the 2019 movement in Hong Kong. In 2020, a year into the protest movement, China imposed the National Security Law on Hong Kong, taking away its judicial independence and the many freedoms promised by the Joint Declaration, including the freedom of expression. Many journalists had to decide: do I shut up, go to prison, or leave?
Using the Hong Kong protest movement in 2019 as a backdrop, this film will follow a video journalist’s four-years journey to find the answers to these questions.”
