“Stories of Us..." 616 5th Anniversary of the Revolution of our Times Street Booth

During the 612 rally, we shared letters from our brothers and sisters and their families. Everyone was deeply touched by the memories and emotions in those letters.

Memories can be conveyed, and emotions can spread. When locals hear news about Hong Kong, it's often just facts and numbers. They might not have the opportunity to experience these heartfelt emotions. We want to send them a message: over the five years, our brothers and sister have been sacrificing their future to fight against tyranny, this push us forward to speak up for Hong Kong.

We sincerely invite you to come to Briggate at 1 PM this Sunday to participate in this street booth, to bring "Stories of Us..." and our emotion to the locals.

See you on Sunday.

- Date: 16/6/2024
- Time: 1 PM to 3 PM
- Location: Briggate, outside Santander Bank (LS1 6AL)
- Feel free to bring your own props.

Five years ago, we, as HongKongers, took to the streets alongside two million others in the largest demonstration in Hong Kong's history. Despite significant media coverage, not everyone around the world fully understands why we did this.

Yesterday, on the fifth anniversary of this massive demonstration, HongKongers in Leeds gathered to commemorate the event. We read aloud letters from the families of Hong Kong political prisoners, sharing their words and their pain. This powerful act of remembrance drew the attention of passers-by, who expressed their support and found the situation in Hong Kong heart-breaking. Their empathy translated into action, and we received £104.7 in donations for BonhamTree Aid, a registered organisation supporting political prisoners and their family. While this may not seem like a large sum, every pound is a testament to the support shown, and for that, we thank you deeply from the bottom of our hearts.

Five years have passed, and life has not been easy. Fighting for what we believe in is even harder, but we must remain hopeful. We need to find more allies by telling our friends and neighbours about what is happening in Hong Kong and standing in solidarity with all people who fight for freedom and democracy. We need to keep thinking about how to liberate Hong Kong and believe that we can.

Hope is our guiding light, and with it, we can stand together in solidarity and keep going until we can reclaim our homeland.

Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times.

//是你教會我們,和平示威是沒有用的。//

July 1st is definitely not a celebration for Hongkongers, but a day that marks the fall of Hong Kong.

Since 2003, the annual July 1st march has been a way for Hongkongers to demand democracy and freedom. Although we may have different demands each year, universal suffrage for the Legislative Council and the Chief Executive has always been the core issue.

//You taught us that peaceful protests are useless.//

In 2019, during the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement, Hongkongers finally reached our breaking point. Despite several million-strong marches and the June 12th Legislative Council protest to block the second reading, what we got in return was police brutality and government indifference. On July 1st, 2019, Hongkongers stormed the Legislative Council to declare the "Hongkongers’ Manifesto."

But the regime showed no reflection, no remorse. On June 30th, 2020, the National Security Law was implemented, and July 1st became a symbol of downfall once again.

The continuous police brutality is unbearable for those with a conscience. On July 1st, 2021, Mr. Leung Kin-fai sacrificed his life to retaliate against police brutality. July 1st once again became synonymous with Hongkongers’ resistance.

Today, on July 1st, people will not forget. We will never forgive those who harmed our brothers and sisters!
