Oxford Universiteti nashriyotiga qilgan safarimizda sovg’a qilingan Oxford lug’atining eng oxirgi 10 nashridan Janob Fyodor Dostoevskyning “Jinoyat va Jazo” asarini ingliz tilida o’qiyotib foydalandim.

Jonli lug’atni elektron lug'atdan ayrim ustunlik tomonlarini sezdim.

Jonli lug’atni varaqlab so’zlarni topish jarayonida haqiqiy ilm o’rganish hissiyoti va zavqini tuydim.
Elektron lug'atlarda bitta knopkani bosganimda so’zni ma'nosini shu soniyaning o’zida chiqarib bergani uchunmi, so’zni qadriga yetmasdan, yuzaki qarab o’tib ketar ekanman.

Jonli lug’at bilan esa bilmagan so’zingizni ma’nosini lug’atni varaqlab varaqlab topishingiz kerak. So’zni izlab topishni o’zi a’lohida bitta kichkina tadqiqot. Biroz mehnat sarflab topganingizdan keyin, yuzaki qarab o’tib ketish yo’q, qayta-qayta tikilib, yonidagi boshqa so’zlar va gaplari bilan qo’shib o’rganar ekan odam.

Elektron lug’atga qaraganda, jonli lug’atda so’zlarni topish tezligi sekinroq bo'lsa ham lekin eslab qolish samaradorligi yuqoriroq tuyuldi menga.

Universitet xonalarida ustozlar uchun ajratilgan burchak. Shu yerdan turib prezentatsiyalarni boshqarib, nutq qilishadi. Xonada hech kim yo’qligida bu joydan turib auditoriyaga murojaat qilish qanaqa bo’lishini his qilib ko’rmoqchi bo’lgandim.

Leksiyalarda o’tirib ustozlarni tinglaganingizda hammasi oson ko’rinadi. Go’yoki bir mutaxassis shunchaki o’zi o’qigan va bilgan narsasini chiqib gapirib berayotgandek tuyuladi. 

Aslida esa bunday emas. Xonada hali hech kim yo’qligida shunchalik salobati bosayapti. Xuddi xona to’la odam sizga qarab turganday.

Dear Teachers!!!
As part of my dissertation project at the University of Exeter, I am inviting English language teachers working in state specialized schools in Uzbekistan to take part in my research project. I’ve already received kind support and agreement from several teachers across the country. I’m truly grateful for their brave and generous decision. 🙏 To complete my data collection, I just need a few more participants.

My research explores teachers’ perceptions of extensive reading (also known as independent reading) — how they view it, experience it, and what role it plays in their teaching.

What does participation involve?

If you decide to take part, you’ll be invited to a one-to-one interview with me, which will be conducted online in Uzbek language. The interview will be scheduled at a time that works best for you. Please know that you do not need to be a “reading expert” to take part. This study is not about testing knowledge. Rather, I’m eager to hear your thoughts, perspectives, and experiences. That’s what matters most.

Why is your input important?
The insights you share might help highlight challenges in teaching reading, for example, a lack of interesting reading materials in school libraries or student motivation. Your contribution could help inform the design of future training programs and improvements in classroom practices.

A few important notes:
• Participation is entirely voluntary
• Your identity will remain anonymous and protected

What’s in it for you?
I wish I could offer concrete benefits such as some financial bonuses😁, but I am not in that position now. The purpose of the project is to shed some lights on the challenges that teachers face as well as the opportunities they have, identify the areas for the improvement and establish the basis for the future teacher trainings to enhance pedagogical practices in reading. So, by being a part of the project, you can make your valuable contribution to the knowledge in English teaching education in Uzbekistan. Also, if you’re interested, I’d be happy to collaborate with you on future projects I plan to launch when I return to Uzbekistan.

Oxford lug’atiga standart ingliz tilidagi so'zlardan tashqari turli hududlarda ommalashgan so'zlar ham kiritib boriladi.  Ingliz tilini global til sifatida o’rni kengayib, dunyoni turli hududlarga kirib borgani sari, har hil madaniyatlar ta’siri ostida tilda ham o’zgarishlar bo’ladi va turli kontekstlarda turlicha ishlatiladi.

Mana shunday turli madaniyatlar ta’sirida paydo bo’ladigan inglizcha so’zlar World Englishes turkumiga kiradi. World Englishes - bu standart ingliz tilidagi so’zlardan tashqari, turli kontekstlarda ingliz tilida ishlatiladigan va o’sha kontekstga xos bo’lgan so’zlarni ifodalash uchun ishlatiladigan termin.

O’zbek tilida biz oqsoqol deb o’rgangan so’z ham World Englishes sifatida Aksakal deb Oxford lug’atiga kiritilgan ekan.

The reviews about the book are really good. It seems like along with kids, it is a must-read book for primary teachers as well.

O‘zbekistonda IELTS bo’yicha dars bergan vaqtlarimda o‘quvchilar ko‘pincha shu savollarni so'rashardi:


“Ingliz tilini qaysi aksentda gapirgan yaxshi? Qaysi aksentda gapirsam yuqoriroq ball olaman?”


Bu savol bilan ko‘pchilik o‘quvchilar ustozlariga murojaat qilgan bo‘lsa kerak.
Aslida hech kim biror bir aksentda gapirishga majbur emas. Kim xohlasa Amerika aksentida, kim xohlasa Britaniya, Hindiston yoki hatto o‘zbekcha aksentda gapiraverishi mumkin. Bu holat na IELTS imtihoni balliga, yoki Britaniyaga o‘qishga kelganingizda ta'lim olish yoki odamlar bilan muloqot qilish imkoniyatingizga salbiy ta’sir ko‘rsatmaydi. Odamlar sizning aksentingizga emas, balki aytayotgan fikringizning mazmuniga e’tibor berishadi.

Britaniyada esa aksent borasida tez-tez muhokama qilinadigan yagona mavzu bu britaniyaliklarning o’zini aksentidir. Britaniyada britancha aksentda gapira olmasligingiz muammo emas. Biroq, bu aksentni tushunmasligingiz muammo bo‘lishi mumkin.

Britaniyada magistratura paytida tadqiqotingiz bo‘yicha yo‘nalish berib borish uchun sizga bitta supervisor (nazoratchi) tayinlanadi. Sizga biriktirilgan supervisor har doim ham siz tanlagan tadqiqot yo‘nalishida mutaxassis bo‘lmaydi.Britaniya tizimida “magistraturada talabalar mustaqil bo‘lishlari kerak. Tadqiqotni asosan mustaqil olib borishlari kerak, supervisorlar faqat yo‘nalish berib turadi” degan tushunchani talabalarga singdirishadi. Supervisorni soddaroq qilib aytganda, siz “o‘likmisiz yo tirikmi?” ishi yo‘q. Ishingizni bersangiz qarab berishadi, bo‘lmasa orqangizdan hech kim yugurmaydi. Bu bir tomondan to‘g‘ri, tadqiqotchilar mustaqil ishlashga o‘rganishlari kerak.

Agarda supervisor siz tanlagan tadqiqot mavzusida o‘zi mutaxassis bo‘lsa, uning tadqiqot yo‘nalishlari sizniki bilan to‘g‘ri kelsa, ya’ni ikki tomondan ham qiziqish tabiiy bo‘lsa, tadqiqot jarayoni boshqacha kechishi mumkin. Shuning uchun magistraturaga kirayotganda (ayniqsa xorijiy universitetlarga) oldindan o‘rganib ko‘rsangiz, sizga foydali bo‘ladigan ba’zi tavsiyalarni bermoqchiman:

1️⃣ Magistratura yo‘nalishlari bilan tanishing. O‘zingiz qiziqadigan yo‘nalishni tanlang.
Faqat hozirgi davr uchun ommabop bo‘lib turgan yoki ko‘proq daromad keltirayotgan yo‘nalishlarga kirishga qiziqmang!
2️⃣ Shu sohadagi ustozlar va professorlar profili bilan tanishing.
Universitetlar saytlarida ular haqidagi ma’lumotlarni topasiz. Ularning o'zlari o‘tkazgan tadqiqotlari va yozgan maqolalariga qarang. Ularga email yozib, o‘zingizni qiziqtirgan savollarga javob olishingiz mumkin.

3️⃣ Oldingi talabalar bilan bog‘laning.
Topshirayotgan universitetingizda sizdan oldin o‘qigan talabalarni topishingiz mumkin. Xorijiy universitetlar saytida yangi talabalarni oldingi talabalar bilan gaplashish imkonini beradigan maxsus chat platformalar bor. Shu orqali oldingi talabalar bilan bog‘lanib, kurs qanchalik foydali bo‘lgani, supervisorlar qanchalik yo‘nalish berib turgani va boshqa masalalarda ularning taassurot va tajribalarini o‘rganing.

Shu orqali dastlabki taassurotlarni shakllantirasiz va shunga qarab kerakli qarorlarni qabul qilasiz.
