Performance Contract Signed as Key Reform Tool for Higher Education

The Ministry of Education has launched a new Performance Contract Management (PCM) system to enhance transparency and effectiveness in higher education. The initiative, developed over several months, emphasizes the role of universities in national development and improving citizens' lives.
At the PCM signing ceremony with 47 government universities, Minister of Education Professor Berhanu Nega highlighted the importance of university research and graduates in boosting the country's global competitiveness. The agreement aims to foster accountability and uphold educational quality, with strong-performing institutions receiving additional support.
State Minister Honorable Ato Kora Tushune noted that the PCM will align universities with international standards through transparent monitoring. Dr. Jemal Abafita, president of Jimma University, signed the performance contract, committing to implement the PCM effectively. The university will ensure all departments align with the contract’s goals and maintain accountability for their performance.
