↟ Vingsted Iron Age is an open-air museum located in Velje, Denmark 🇩🇰

Older cultural monuments on this area from the Iron Age (500 BC - 1050 AD) have been preserved and utilized – a reconstructed Iron Age environment with houses, estates, fields, smithy, sacrificial area and living cattle.

During the Iron Age the farms were built surrounded by a fence with several houses next to a larger residential building. These houses were used for various purposes such as a smithy or a loom. There was also often an excavated well in close to the larger residential building on the farm.

↟ Mother of Pearls – Polar Stratospheric Clouds ↟

This phenomenon is something very rare occurring here in the Northern realms. The phenomenon is called 'Mother of Pearls', and can only form in winter under very specific conditions in the polar stratosphere at very high altitudes (up to 15 - 25 kilometers). They occur at extremely low temperatures, around -70°C to -90°C, which only happens a few times a year in the stratosphere over the Artic polar region.

Scientists claims that these are the highest, coldest and rarest clouds on Earth. They are most visible close to sunrise or sunset (civil twiligh) when the sun is between 1 and 6 degrees below the horizon. The sunbeams' are making a prims effect through the ice crystals in the clouds, casting beautiful glowing pastel colors all over the sky.

These clouds comes in two variants: PSC1 and PSC2. Type 1 is...- continues in comment below ⬇️

↟ Skaði – The mythical goddess of the Scandinavian Wilderness ↟

❄️ She hunts in the mountains of Scandes with a bow and cross-country skis, and sometimes Skaði is associated with the winter dís. Living among frost giants in Trymheim and Jotunheim, and the giant Tjasse is her father. In Norse mythology the story goes that she came to Asgard to avenge her father, the giant Tjasse who was killed by the gods of Asgard. Instead of revenge the gods offered her a compensation – she would marry one of them. To do so, she had to choose by looking at their feet while they're lined up behind a cloth.

Skaði wanted to marry the god of light Baldr, and thought that the most beautiful feet must be his. But it was not, those feet belonged to the god of the sea; Njord. The marriage was not successful, Njord wanted to live by the sea in his dwelling Noatun. Skaði wanted to...- continues in comment below ⬇️

↟ Dísablót/Disting -an ancient Swedish thing ↟

🌕 Dísablót & Disting is an ancient Germanic Old Norse tradition that is considered to have taken place today – at the third full moon after the new moon, after the Winter Solstice in Uppsala, Sweden. The blót was held to show reverence for Spring, to ensure good fertility and harvest for the coming year. Several gods are worshiped, mainly the Dísir – female goddesses of fate in our Norse mythology, whom can be both benevolent and evil. A dís exist for example the night, the wind and the rain – Skaði is sometimes associated with the winter dís.

🌕 Dísablót is one of the most famous blóts and like Hókunótt/Midvinterblot/Julblot also one of the most misunderstood. According to the Heimskringla Saga, this Swedish tradition is 'as old as Heathenry itself'. Disting was taking form of a large market...- continues in comments below ⬇️
