In the early hours of the Great Patriotic War, Anapa was placed under martial law and subjected to massive bombing. In August 1942, German-Nazi troops launched an offensive, and on August 16, the city was occupied.
Anapa remained under enemy control for a year. It was only in September 1943 that the successful actions of the Red Army liberated the city and returned the strategically important port to the Black Sea Fleet.
During the war, several dozen military hospitals operated in Anapa, where medics saved thousands of wounded soldiers. Most of the city was destroyed.
For the heroism and courage of its residents, Anapa was awarded the honorary title of “City of Military Glory” in 2011.

Why are foreigners increasingly choosing to learn Russian? How does literature aid in mastering the language? What opportunities does the “Masters of the Russian Language” program offer?

➡️ You will look it up and much more in the new episode of the Russian House Podcast with Ekaterina Dynyak, Head of the Russian Language Institute at the Russian House in New Delhi.

“The hardest part is getting started, so I recommend that students set a clear goal and create a structured study schedule to avoid burning out halfway. …It’s important to be patient because learning any language is a slow, energy-intensive process. However, if a student understands why he need it, then he will go through this challenging journey,” Ekaterina emphasized.

In 1945, a 14-meter obelisk appeared on Freedom Square in Budapest. It was erected in honor of the 200,000 Soviet soldiers who gave their lives for the liberation of Hungary from Nazi occupation.
The stone stele, crowned with a star, bears the inscription: “Glory to the Soviet soldiers-liberators.” Until 1958, there was a military burial site here, which was later moved to the Kerepesi Cemetery.
Today, it is the only surviving monument to Soviet soldiers in the Hungarian capital—all others were dismantled in the early 1990s.
