The Cardiology Division of SPHMMC, in collaboration with the Cardiovascular Education Foundation, successfully conducted a 2-day Coronary Mission. During the event, 12 complex PCIs were performed with excellent outcomes, underscoring the team's expertise and dedication. Importantly, the mission also focused on skill transfer, empowering the local cardiology team with advanced interventional techniques to ensure sustained quality care for patients in the future.
We are deeply grateful to our dedicated team, St. Paul's Management and the department of Internal Medicine for the support in making this possible.

St.Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College
St. Paul's is a leading public hospital and medical college in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Professor Senait Fisseha and Dr. Zerihun Abebe Honored for Advancing Radiology at SPHMMC
The St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) and the Radiological Society of Ethiopia have honored Professor Senait Fisseha and Dr. Zerihun Abebe for their pivotal contributions to establishing and expanding the Radiology Residency Program at SPHMMC.
The awards were presented during the 28th Annual Ethiopian Radiological Society Conference, recognizing their instrumental roles in advancing radiology training and healthcare services in Ethiopia.
Professor Senait Fisseha, Director of Global Programs at the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, was commended for her efforts in launching the Radiology Residency Program. Her work included supporting curriculum development, drafting the department’s first strategic plan, and forging a partnership with the University of Michigan’s Radiology Department. She also provided financial support for travel between the two institutions, supplied teaching aids such as tablets for residents, and facilitated access to diagnostic tools like STATdx. Additionally, her contributions extended to covering the costs of radiology fellowship training.
Dr. Zerihun Abebe, currently CEO of King Faisal Hospital in Rwanda and former Provost of SPHMMC, was lauded for his transformative leadership. Under his tenure, SPHMMC introduced critical healthcare services, including Ethiopia’s first public hemodialysis and renal transplant center and a state-of-the-art CAT-Lab. He also laid the foundations for establishing major centers of excellence in cardiology, gastroenterology, and oncology.
Dr. Zerihun played a key role in securing funding and resources, enabling the successful implementation of numerous initiatives. His leadership and close follow-up were credited with strengthening the radiology department during its formative years. “Without his leadership, the department's current achievements would not have been possible,” attendees noted during the ceremony.
A Leading Program in Ethiopia
Established in 2014, the Radiology Residency Program at SPHMMC has grown into one of Ethiopia's premier institutions for radiology specialty and subspecialty training. To date, it has graduated over 110 radiologists, accounting for 33% of the nation’s radiology workforce.
The program equips trainees with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in imaging technologies, including computed tomography (CT), ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and X-rays, enabling them to make significant contributions both locally and internationally.
SPHMMC and the Radiological Society of Ethiopia emphasized the lasting impact of the contributions made by Professor Senait and Dr. Zerihun in transforming radiology training and healthcare delivery in the country.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Margaret C. Ryan Global Health Program at Boston Children’s Hospital for sending two of their nurses to our college. Their visit focused on our Pediatric Emergency and Pediatric Critical Care Units. Throughout the week, they raised awareness about nursing practices in infection prevention and control.
Additionally, the team had a productive consultative meeting with the Pediatrics Department, the School of Nursing, and the ARVP of the college to explore opportunities for further collaboration.
In light of these fruitful meetings, we look forward to continuing the conversation with Boston Children’s Hospital’s Global Health nursing colleagues to build pediatric critical care expertise in preparation for the upcoming residency launch. In collaboration with the St. Paul’s School of Nursing, the nurses from Boston Children’s Hospital aim to assist with capacity building for nurses, mentoring department-based nurse leaders and nursing specialists, and supporting the development of nurse-driven protocols and evidence-based practices.
The college is committed to working collaboratively with Boston Children’s Hospital and their Global Health Nursing team in education, research, and quality improvement, with the goal of positively impacting patient care in the Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care Units at St. Paul’s.
