What do you think would change in the story if Jeremy became a vampire when he drank Anna's blood?

Damon Salvatore: Not a Selfish Man, but a Man Who Chose to Move Forward
Many people mistakenly believe that Damon Salvatore is completely devoid of guilt and remorse. This is an overly simplistic view that ignores the depth and complexity of his character. Damon refuses to let guilt define him, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel it.
1. Damon Is Capable of Guilt and Remorse
The show has repeatedly shown Damon experiencing profound guilt:
Remorse for Lexi: He still suffers from Lexi's murder and confesses it to Elena. These aren't just words, but genuine regret for taking Stefan's friend away.
Guilt for Stefan: He felt guilty for his inaction in 1912 when Stefan became the Ripper and blamed himself for failing to save him.
Apology: His apology to Jeremy and Matt for Vicki's death was an atypical display of guilt and a desire to ease the suffering of others.
Unjust Guilt: Damon felt guilty for killing Tyler in season eight, even though it wasn't his fault—he was under the siren's control. This shows that his conscience is alive and willing to take on even the sins of others.
2. Guilt—A Weight Damon Deliberately Sheds
Even when Damon outwardly shows no remorse, there's a compelling reason. Guilt is a self-destructive emotion that weighs you down, preventing you from moving on and forgiving yourself. Damon, unlike Stefan, understood this. He made a conscious choice not to let guilt destroy him. His motto is: only moving forward. This isn't a lack of morality, but a form of self-preservation. He prefers to acknowledge his wrongdoing rather than let it turn him into a prisoner of the past.
3. Selfishness as a Protective Shield
Yes, Damon can be selfish—that's a fact. But his selfishness isn't his true nature, but a protective shield he uses to hide his pain.
Childhood Trauma: During his human years, Damon experienced traumatic events: physical and psychological abuse from his father, feelings of unworthiness, and the responsibility of protecting Stefan.
Protectiveness of Loved Ones: Even in moments of selfishness, he showed deep caring. He repeatedly saved Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Alaric, and Jeremy. He often took on the role of the "bad guy" to do what was necessary, even if it meant others would hate him.
Damon is a character who fought to become a better person, and achieved this not because of, but in spite of, his trauma.
