The intra-university stage of the IV All-Russian Multi-profile Olympiad named after N.I. Pirogov has become a large-scale and bright event. The Olympiad opened with an introductory speech by Olga Prirodova, Vice-Rector for Postgraduate and Continuing Education.
"We are the heart of progress. But at the same time, we strive to preserve the traditions of Pirogov University, to be the best, loyal to our profession, colleagues and teachers. I think this Olympiad is one of the best examples and one of the best opportunities to show this," Olga Prirodova noted.
This year, the event has reached a new level, turning into a large-scale Olympiad festival. He covered key medical disciplines, from therapy and pediatrics to surgery and emergency care. Thanks to modern simulation technologies, students were able to test and hone their professional skills in conditions close to real ones.
The participants demonstrated a high level of theoretical training and a confident command of medical instruments. They successfully demonstrated clinical thinking, collecting complaints and medical history, conducting physical examinations and providing emergency care in non-standard situations. The jury paid special attention to the accuracy of diagnosis and the choice of further treatment tactics.
The event became a large-scale event that brought together students and their mentors. The winners of the university stage will represent Pirogov University on December 13 at the interuniversity stage of the All-Russian Multi-profile Olympiad named after N.I. Pirogov.

From history to innovation: how severe rheumatic diseases in children are treated today
Pirogov University hosted the fourth lecture this semester and the eleventh of our series of lectures by leading scientists on Perinatology and Pediatrics. Ekaterina Alekseeva, Chief freelance pediatric rheumatologist at the Russian Ministry of Health, Director of the N.F. Filatov Clinical Institute of Child Health, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, addressed the audience.
She shared with the audience her extensive knowledge and practical experience in the field of pediatric rheumatology. During the lecture, Ekaterina Alekseeva spoke about the history of this medical discipline, the key stages of its formation, as well as about modern diagnostic and treatment methods used by doctors and researchers today.
The lecturer paid special attention to modern drug therapy, including hormonal drugs and biological genetically engineered drugs. At the same time, she stressed the importance of an individual approach to each patient, the so—called targeted therapy. This approach is based on identifying the key mechanisms of the development of a particular disease and choosing the most appropriate treatment method.
Ekaterina Alekseeva cited cases of successful use of innovative drugs as an example.
The speaker noted that such drugs not only increase the chances of recovery and maintain a high standard of living, but also require constant improvement of medical technologies and the expansion of their availability.
The event was concluded by Lidiya Ilyenko, Director of the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood at Pirogov University. She noted the revolutionary changes in approaches to the treatment of rheumatic diseases and expressed hope for further development of effective therapies, emphasizing the importance of scientific research work of doctors.

A new project "The Hour of the Region" has been launched at Pirogov University
This initiative opens up unique career opportunities for students, and for the regions, direct communication with the country's leading medical university for staff training. The first guests of the project were a delegation from the Udmurt Republic.

The future of pediatric surgery is in safe hands: results of the All-Russian Student Forum
Pirogov University hosted a large-scale and significant forum "Minimally invasive technologies in pediatric surgery. From theory to practice", dedicated to the memory of Professor Alexei Geraskin. The event has become a real point of attraction for future stars of pediatric surgery! It was attended by 23 teams and 43 brigades from 19 cities of Russia and neighboring countries.
The main purpose of the forum is to motivate students to develop the finest manual skills needed by a pediatric surgeon and create an environment for informal communication between like—minded people.
The eventful competition program consisted of three parts.
Gym competition. The participants demonstrated jewelry techniques by performing laparoscopic ligation of testicular vessels and appendectomy on models.
Endoscopic competition. A complex clinical situation was simulated here: removing a swallowed hydrogel ball and suturing an intestinal defect is a task that requires composure and precision.
The final quiz allowed the students to show off their deep theoretical knowledge.
The forum left behind not only the results of the protocols, but also something more — a living fire in the eyes of the participants. This meeting provided invaluable experience, new professional horizons and confidence that the future of pediatric surgery is in safe hands.

Efficiency, safety and economic feasibility: how to implement new technologies in practical healthcare
Pirogov University hosted a seminar on "The healthcare system as a territory for innovation" with the participation of experts from the Center for Expertise and Quality Control of Medical Care of the Russian Ministry of Health: Director General Vitaly Omelyanovsky and Chief Specialist of the Methodological Support Department Polina Mukhortova.
According to experts, there is a conflict of interest between government agencies regulating the availability of medical technologies and manufacturers who seek to integrate their developments into the healthcare system. In such conditions, tools for assessing the economic effectiveness of technologies and drugs are needed to maintain a balance.
The key role here is played by the Health technology Assessment (HTA), a methodology that makes it possible to justify the financing of medical technologies and drugs at the state and regional levels. As the speakers noted, since the standards of diagnosis, treatment and prevention are determined by clinical recommendations, each drug must be evaluated in terms of effectiveness, safety and economic feasibility in order to be included in them.
This examination is provided by the Center for Expertise and Quality Control of Medical Care, which also participates in the formation of lists of vital drugs, evaluates the quality of medical care and performs other important functions in the field of healthcare.
The event ended with a lively discussion: students and guests discussed key issues, expressed their opinions, suggestions and asked questions to the speakers.
