VW Beetle cars at the first classic Volkswagen owners' gathering, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Beetle has long been a part of the life of many Ethiopians. One of the organisers said: "We love our Volkswagens, so it's out of passion that we organised this event. The car is beautiful, curvy, photogenic, easy to maintain." But he said parts for the car are expensive, creating "high maintenance costs", so "young people are ditching it. We need to inspire the youth to love the car once again." Owners of the classic VW camper van also attended the event.

On this day: The 750,000th Volkswagen for The Netherlands, a 1303 Beetle, was celebrated at the end of the assembly line at the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg on 31 October 1973. At the top of the windshield can be seen export code HO (Holland) 🇳🇱 🇩🇪
