Gentle nudge and reminder :

🅾️August is the month where students get very relaxed. This is the month where lot of holidays begin- rakshabandhan, independence day, ganesh chaturdi etc .. then before you realise mains paper discussions will begin, you have the illusion of preparation chasing and consuming content mindlessly without tracking your outcomes.

🅾️This is the biggest tragedy of most UPSC aspirants... the illusion of preparation- especially the senior folks- just realise that the margin for error is close to zero. Are you tracking your progress? If yes how? It is time to face this uncomfortable question....

Gs-1 : Salient features of Indian society

🅾️Caste- link to family- Honor killings

⚠️Alarming paradox : TN has one of the most vibrant anti-caste movements (Periyar’s Self-Respect Movement, Dravidian parties). It also has a strong Dalit assertion in politics, education, and culture. But: This empowerment + high inter-caste marriage rates = heightened reaction from dominant caste groups → frequent honour killings.India is between tradition and transformation → caste is weakening in practice but not in ideology.

🅾️Symbolic reactions: Honour killings = symbolic resistance to loss of caste authority.

🅾️Urban paradox: Cities show individual freedom, but digital networks (WhatsApp groups, caste associations) reproduce caste norms in new ways.

Gs-2 : International Relations- India-US-Russia Relations

🔰Lessons learnt from Alaska Summit

🅾️1. Lesson 1: Don’t over-invest in personalities- they cant can’t replace structural foreign policy needs.

🅾️2. Lesson 2: Keep strategic autonomy alive-multi-alignment” (QUAD with US, defence with Russia, trade with EU, energy with Middle East).

🅾️3. Lesson 3: Domestic resilience matters-Diversify defence sourcing (France, Israel, indigenous production).Strengthen economy so tariff shocks don’t destabilise.

🅾️4. Lesson 4 : India cannot count on summits between other leaders to ease its dilemmas.US–Russia tensions spill over onto India in trade (tariffs), defense (CAATSA), and energy (oil prices)- Click here

🅾️If LG nominates without elected government’s advice → undermines accountability, risks converting majority into minority. In smaller assemblies (J&K, Puducherry), even a few nominated MLAs can shift the balance of power.Codify nomination procedure in Parliamentary law: who nominates, from what fields, under what criteria. LG should normally act on advice of Council of Ministers, except in specific reserved matters.

Last 6 years were challenging. The learning curve was very steep for me- This year, the biggest disruption is going to be the spread of AI tools- In my preliminary observation, instead of helping students its actually making it worse in terms of attention span. Tools can aide learning- not replace it . Remember, if you have the tool, so does everyone else- that makes AI a democratic tool- so the exam will evolve too! 🙂

August to december are usually the times were most aspirants are on a snooze mode. This is also the phase were toppers are born- Do watch this-
