A few days ago, a bunch of people aggressively defended bullfighting because of the following reasons:

- it’s an ancient tradition so therefore it’s awesome
- if you’re not from there, you must be quiet please
- torturing bulls saves them from extinction*

- *stabbing a bull multiple times over time, so that it bleeds to death, in front of a cheering audience, is not torture to some

Let’s apply the same nonsensical but consistent logic to seal clubbing, because being principled means being consistent.

Seal clubbing dates back thousands of years, so let’s protect the ancient tradition of chasing down seals and smashing in their heads! And please shut up if you’re not from there.

Continuing with the arguments made by those aggressively defending bullfighting, let’s use the same logic where slavery is concerned.

To be clear, these are the arguments made:

- it’s an ancient tradition, so it must be preserved
- if you’re not from there, shut up
- without bullfighting, bulls would become extinct
- stabbing a bull multiple times to a cheering crowd, waiting for it to die from blood loss, isn’t torture

Slavery is an ancient tradition, so we should fight to preserve it. It’s obviously an awesome tradition.

Plus, you should not comment on slavery if you’re not from one of the regions where the tradition is held.

Lastly, slavery stops slaves from going extinct.

People in this channel's comments defend this ancient Canadian tradition and think it's awesome because ancient traditions are awesome and must be protected because ancient traditions must be protected.

Of course, it's circular logic, making it a stupid argument.

No wonder Canada's best offerings are Nickelback, Celene Dion, Jordan Peterson, and Fidel Castro's son.
