A man once came to Imam ‘Abdullah Ibn Mubarak رحمه الله seeking advice about an ulcer that had appeared in his knee seven years ago.
He had tried various treatments and asked doctors but did not benefit from it; so ibn al-Mubarak said to him:
"Go and dig a well in a place where there is a need for water (for the people). For I am hopeful that water will spring up there and the bleeding will stop.”
So he did that and he was cured (by the mercy of Allah).
[Siyar ‘A’laam an-Nubalaa’, 8/407]

Charity and charitable deeds (food, water, clothing, necessities) must be done as much as possible (in abundance)
for (doing) this has a wonderful effect in warding off (ongoing or impending) calamity,
and (it works in) warding off the evil eye or the envious eye (that which has already taken effect or the one that may take effect will be prevented).
