Наш канал постепенно превращается в филиал colani.com, но мы не можем не поделиться очередной выдающейся работой Луиджи Колани, детским уголком «Rappelkiste», спроектированным дизайнером для небольшого немецкого производителя «Elbro» в 1975 г. и продолжающим ряд многофункциональных систем для детей.

Этот комплекс, включающий в себя кровать, шкаф, шведскую стенку и настраиваемое рабочее место, лишен биодинамических очертаний, характерных для большинства проектов Колани. Да и материалом служит массив бука – ввиду последствий нефтяного кризиса 1973 г. Колани был вынужден отказаться от пластика. К сожалению, далеко не все семьи с детьми могли позволить себе такую систему – стоимость была чересчур высока, и скудные продажи «Rappelkiste» довели компанию-производителя до банкротства.

We realize that our channel is slowly turning into an embassy of colani.com, but there’s one piece in Luigi Colani’s extensive oeuvre we simply can’t help sharing with you. Dubbed the Rappelkiste, this living unit was created in 1975 for a small German furniture-maker called Elbro and is another addition to our collection of multifunctional systems designed specifically for children.

What is essentially a combination of a bunk bed, a wardrobe, a workstation, and climbing bars can hardly be perceived as a Colani for its lack of the designer’s signature biodynamic curves. Also, in the aftermath of the 1973 oil crisis, Colani had to choose against his favorite material, polished plastic, in favor of solid beech wood. Sadly, priced much too high, this tower was only affordable to wealthy Germans and sold unsuccessfully, ultimately leading to Elbro’s bankruptcy.

Благодаря Лизе Солоницыной и долгожданному прибытию 4Ceramics в Петербург познакомились с несколькими талантливыми керамистами, в том числе Сашей Акопян, чьи черные вазы пленили нас, еще когда мы изучали пресс-релиз ярмарки. К счастью, на стенде Саши были не только эти спокойные и умиротворяющие изделия, цель которых, по словам автора, - собирать созерцающего воедино, но и еще ряд предметов с совсем иным настроением. Среди них керамические миниатюры, отдаленно напоминающие работы Берндта Фриберга, светлые «гофрированные» вазы, стаканы «Астер» и «Монро».

Стакан «Астер», сочетающий в себе стихи и прозу (оригинальная пластика, оказывается, в высшей степени функциональна: высота и объем стакана делают его идеальной емкостью для дрип-пакетов с кофе, а бороздки служат эргономичному расположению стакана в ладони, причем любой руки), мы немедленно приобрели для домашней коллекции, но наиболее сильное впечатление на нас произвели, пожалуй, рельефные вазы - во многом благодаря рассказу Саши о них.

Thanks to Elizaveta Solonitsyna and the long-awaited arrival of 4Ceramics in St. Petersburg, we had a chance to meet several talented ceramic artists. One of them is Sasha Akopyan, whose black vases truly impressed us when we were reviewing the press release for the upcoming market. Fortunately, Sasha's space at the fair featured not only these serene and calming pieces, which, according to the artist, aim to "restore one’s inner self", but also a number of items with a completely different vibe. Among them were ceramic miniatures vaguely reminiscent of Berndt Friberg's ceramics, "corrugated" vases in white glazing, and two types of cups, the Aster and Monroe.

We immediately added the Aster cup to our home collection of ceramics as a piece that combines poetry and practicality: its original sculptural form turns out to be highly functional: the height and volume make it ideal for drip coffee bags, while the grooves ensure an ergonomic fit in the palm of either hand. However, these were the white vases that left the most most lasting impression, partly due to the story behind them Sasha kindly confided to us.
