πArticle 371 And Special Provisions For States
Constitutional provisions
β Article 371 falls under Part-21 of Constitution
β Contains special provisions for certain states, primarily in the Northeast and some other regions.
β All these exceptions are under a Section of the Constitution titled βTemporary, Transitional and Special Provisionsβ
β They would be operable till the crisis ceases β either secessionist sentiments or war. However, NO Expiry Date mentioned explicitly.
Essence
β Article 371A to 371I were inserted to meet regional demands of Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Goa. (PYQ)
β Aim - Preserving the cultural, social, and economic interests of the states and ensuring their equitable development.
β These provisions vary for each state and are intended to address specific historical, cultural, and administrative contexts.

πPir Panjal Range
β The recent killing of 2 Army officers and a J&K police officer spotlights the areas south of the Pir Panjal range, which have seen more focus of counter-terror operations in the valley.
β The Pir Panjal Range is a group of mountains in the inner Himalayan region, the largest in the lower group of the majestic Himalayas.
β The Pir Panjal range is also called Pir Ki Gali.
β Extension - Extends from Nilam (Kishanganga) River in
Pakistan administered Kashmir, running southeast through
Jammu & Kashmir to the upper Beas River in the north-western
part of Himachal Pradesh.
β The Himalayas show a gradual elevation towards the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges.
β Direction - It runs from the west-northwest direction to east-
southeast direction.
