The ancient Marmashen Monastery in Armenia was built in the distant XX century and has not been preserved in its entirety - of all the buildings, only the main part of the monastery cathedral and a small church nearby have survived more or less intact, while only the foundation remains of the most interesting circular church.

Nevertheless, what has survived is very interesting, largely due to its preservation of Roman heritage. Although the temples were built not in the distant past by the standards of Armenian architecture and are more than distinctive, many antique elements have been preserved here, inherited from more ancient temples.

And while details such as ornaments carry the local spirit, but could well have been found in Byzantine Syria, in more architectural elements, such as column capitals, which actually originate from Ionic ones, it is quite difficult to identify the progenitor.

Looking at both archival and contemporary photos of the majestic Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos Church in Ukhtym, Rusia, one is left breathless—even without its enormous bell tower and in the early stages of restoration, the church captivates with its scale, which is anything but rural.

Unfortunately, it appears that the preserved frescoes of the dome were lost during the restoration work, which cannot but cause concern for the fate of other details of the church.

Today, the Church commemorates one of the Twelve Great feasts - the Transfiguration of the Lord, dedicated to the manifestation of the true power of Jesus Christ before his chosen disciples, which took place even before the Resurrection.

In honour of this significant feast, as always, I have prepared a selection of the most remarkable churches dedicated to it.
