C. Rajamohan writes about new terms of engagement post Pahalgam attack:

Proactive Strategic Doctrine: India’s transition from passive deterrence to offensive realism (John Mearsheimer).

Deterrence Stability & Coercive Diplomacy: India's cross-border actions aim to redefine escalation thresholds while maintaining controlled retaliation.

Geopolitical Signaling & Diplomatic Posturing: government's strategy aligns with Kenneth Waltz’s neorealism, leveraging calibrated military and diplomatic responses.

Hydropolitics & Resource Leverage: reconsideration of Indus Waters Treaty positions water as a strategic asset, reinforcing India’s bargaining power.

Civil-Military Coordination: The tactical restraint reflects bureaucratic oversight in civil-military relations, ensuring legitimacy and stability in security operations.

Narrative Framing & Soft Power: Joseph Nye’s soft power theory manifests in India’s global messaging, reinforcing its stance as a responsible security actor.
