Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) together with the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) and Applied Microbiology International successfully hosted an international seminar. The theme is “Microbial Ecology Research and Capacity Building for Socio-Economic Transformation.”
The program was officially launched by Dr. Abraham Debebe, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at AASTU.

Bioinformatics Capacity Building Training for Researchers

Addis Ababa Science and Technology University has launched a three-day Bioinformatics Capacity Building Training for researchers drawn from higher education institutions and research centers across the country. The training, organized following the Microbial International Seminar, officially closed yesterday and will continue from November 25–27, 2025.
The training is supports by the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) and Applied Microbiology International in collaboration with the African Microbiome Project, Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and the South African Society for Bioinformatics.
Dr. Mesfin Tafesse, Director for University–Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer at AASTU, highlighted the significance of the training.

Collaboration on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment

Addis Ababa Science and Technology University has launched a new collaboration with the Ministry of Health and UNAIDS to strengthen efforts in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. As a leading higher education institution, AASTU becomes the first university to formally partner in this initiative, aiming to actively engage students in discussions and awareness-raising activities on HIV/AIDS.
During today’s launching program, the University’s Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, Dr. Abraham Debebe, the UNAIDS Ethiopia Country Director, Tina Boonto, and a representative from the Ministry of Health jointly inaugurated the partnership.

Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT), in collaboration with Ethiotelecom and Nokia, has launched a training program aimed at supporting the digital economy and nurturing innovation among university students.
The initiative specifically targets Electrical and Computer Engineering students, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to develop innovative ideas and launch startup businesses.
The training focuses on fostering creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking among emerging engineers. By combining technical knowledge with practical innovation skills, the program aims to prepare students to play an active role in Ethiopia’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
