The Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) witnessed a day filled with innovation and collaboration as it hosted the AASTU Tech Fest 2024. Organized by various student clubs including GDSC AASTU in collaboration with AASTU, Ahamnes Space Science, and CGI AASTU, the event brought together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and students to discuss the latest trends and challenges in technology and entrepreneurship.
One of the highlights of the event was the panel discussion focusing on infrastructure, resources, opportunities, and challenges in developing an entrepreneurial culture in technology and ICT, as well as marketing and commercializing innovative technologies. Esteemed panelists including Emre Varol, CEO of A2SV Africa; Solomon Kassa, Founder of 1888; Addis Alemayehou, Chairman of Kazana Group; and Mirafe Gebriel, General Manager of ALX, engaged in a spirited discussion on the role of technology in driving positive change in Africa.
During the opening session, Dr. Dereje Engida, the President of the university, emphasized AASTU's commitment to nurturing competitive and global citizens capable of making an impact worldwide. He highlighted the university's focus on student development and quality education, which is evident through the innovative ideas and solutions showcased by the students.
In addition to the panel discussion, the Dev Dialogue session featured renowned speakers such as Bisrategebriel Fisseha, CEO at Kuraztech; Daniel Bekele, CEO and Founder of Ashewa Technology Solutions; Bemhreth Gezahegn, Co-founder of Gebeta Maps; Huawei; Temkin Mengistu; Bezawork Tilahun; Mukerem Ali; and Mebatsion Sahle. በዚህም መሰረት እ.ኤ.አ በ20/04/2024 የኢኖቬሽን እና ቴክኖሎጂ ሚኒስቴር ከሶስት የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት ማለትም ከአዲስ አበባ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ፤ ከአዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ እና ከአዳማ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ጋር ስለ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎቻቸው የኢንኩቤሽን ማዕከላት አሰራር፤ አደረጃጀት እና አቅም ላይ ገለጻ አቅርበዋል፡፡
በሶስቱ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች የምርምርና ቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር ም/ፕሬዝዳንቶች ከቀረበው ገለፃ በተጨማሪ ከኢኖቬሽን እና ቴክኖሎጂ ሚኒስቴር ስለ ስታርት አፕ ሂደት እና ደረጃዎች አጠቃላይ ገለጻ ቀርቧል፡፡
ከዚህ ጋር ተያይዞ በአዲስ አበባ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ በኩል ስለ ዩኒቨርሲቲው የፈጠራ ስራዎች፤ ምርምር እና ቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር አሁናዊ ሁኔታ ዶ/ር አብረሃም ደበበ የምርምርና ቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር ም/ፕሬዝዳንት አቅርበዋል፡፡
ዶ/ር አብረሃም እንደገለፁት ዩኒቨርሲቲው በምርምርና ፈጠራ ስራዎች ላይ ዘርፍ ብዙ ስራዎችን መስራቱን በመጥቀስ እነዚህን የምርምርና የፈጠራ ስራዎች ወደ ኢንኩቤሽን በማስገባት ወደ ገበያ የሚወጡበትን ምቹ ሁኔታ ከመፍጠር አኳያ መልካም ስራዎች እየተሰሩ መሆናቸውን አክለው ገልጸዋል፡ ፡

In a bid to foster collaboration in the realm of agricultural technology and green energy, the Sustainable Energy Center of Excellence at the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) in partnership with Farm Africa Ethiopia convened a consultative workshop on April 30, 2024. The event, graced by Dr. Abraham Debebe, Vice President for Research and Technology at AASTU, set the stage for fruitful discussions aimed at leveraging innovation for sustainable development.
Dr. Abraham, in his opening remarks, underscored AASTU's commitment to bridging the gap between research and practical application, emphasizing the university's mission to serve the end user through impactful innovation. Highlighting AASTU's strategic vision and the array of transferable technologies available for partnerships, he stressed the importance of commercializing innovations to drive societal progress sustainably.
On another front, Mr. Ayele Feleke, Program Manager at Farm Africa, provided a comprehensive overview of the organization. He delineated Farm Africa's thematic areas and identified practical technology challenges necessitating intervention. Mr. Ayele Feleke underscored the multifaceted challenges encompassing environment, agriculture, and energy, emphasizing the potential for collaborative endeavors with AASTU to address these pressing issues. He emphasized that Farm Africa requires interventions in Technologies for small-scale irrigation, solar and water lifting technologies, Technologies for agriculture production value addition, Energy for cooking technology, and water efficiency.
Further enriching the dialogue, Mr. Arkbom Hailu , staff and researcher at AASTU expounded on the significant past and ongoing collaborative endeavors between AASTU and Farm Africa. His presentation shed light on the major activities undertaken, showcasing the synergy between the two entities in tackling pertinent challenges at the intersection of agriculture and sustainable energy.
Finally, the workshop reached its pinnacle through panel discussions, where experts delved deeper into the identified areas of collaboration and charted a clear path forward.
