Ente Panchayat Ente Utharavadhithwam (My Panchayat My Responsibility)
Most people from our place have moved to the UAE or European countries. I am one among the few who chose to stay in my birthplace because I don’t want to live as a second or third-class citizen in another country. When I look at why so many youths are migrating, the main reason I see is that they don’t get proper value for what they pay here. Our roads are full of potholes, street lights remain dead, there is not even a single park where kids and families can relax, and except for the health sector everything else is still in a miserable state.
Since I travel across different cities, I can confidently say that we are lagging far behind in basic infrastructure. Our roads are among the worst.
So the question is, what are we doing instead of just complaining? We should not keep waiting for an MLA, MP, or political party to step in. It’s on us now to do something different and initiate a project that finds the root cause and fixes it.
For the past two months, I have been working on this. As the first step, I started from the local self government body, the Panchayat. Every day I spend at least 10 minutes checking how our Panchayat is spending money. The findings honestly shocked me, and I am sure you will feel the same once you check your Panchayat’s data.
Here are the tools I use:
1. Meri Panchayat App – This shows the current balance of the Panchayat, ongoing projects, and completed works. It even gives the estimated cost, actual expenditure, Google Maps location of the project, and photos of the completed work.
2. eGramSwaraj Website – This has the same details as the app, but it’s a web version where you can download Excel files of the data.
Here’s my process:
1. I check all the works completed in the year and flag anything that looks suspicious.
2. I file an online RTI which costs just 10 rupees. In the RTI, I ask for original bills. For example, my Panchayat showed an expenditure of 4.5 lakhs for sports equipment. But when I looked at the photos, it was just ten cricket bats and a few other basic items that couldn’t cost more than a lakh. So I request the original bills, calculate the market value, and question the gap.
That is the approach I have started. Kerala has a large number of software engineers and techies now. I believe we can take this to the next level. Imagine if every time a Panchayat added a new work or recorded an expense, an automated WhatsApp message went to a community group. Everyone would be aware of what is being spent and how it is being spent.

Witnessed something really terrible today
Me and my friends were chatting over a tea at our usual spot.Near to the place there was an onam festival done by a local club where everyone was participating irrespective of religion, some guys (not local to the area) suddenly started chanting ‘Har har mahadev’
and similar slogans aimed at a muslim family who were going to leave the place as the program was over. These guys were high on alcohol and was very loud, the thing is this is deeply disturbing me seeing something like this in front of my eyes. Did anyone had any similar experiences? Just asking out of curiosity as this is something i had only seen the northies doing. If took those actions in wrong mindset feel free to correct me

Concerned About a Complaint Filed by a Magistrate Against My Father and his employer
Hi guys. My father works at an electronics repair shop (fans, motors and such). Last week two kids, I think they were girls, came there asking for a motor of some kind, probably to make something, and the shop owner gave it to them. My father was not present at that time. The next day they came back around noon asking for a nut that is used to fit the motor. My father told them it is sold separately and not given complimentary. But the kids refused to accept that because some other shop person had told them the nut comes with the motor, so they thought our shop had fooled them.
They kept arguing and my father politely explained the situation. That’s when someone suddenly came there shouting at my father, asking whether he was trying to fool children, saying things like “Don’t you have kids?” My father again explained that the nut is sold separately, but the man stayed angry. Then the shop owner came and also confirmed the same. The man challenged them like “Ninte oke kada, njan kaanich tharada” and then left.
It was the day before Onam, so the shop closed early. But at night, police came and asked nearby shop owners about the shop. Turns out the man who shouted was a Magistrate, and he filed a complaint against my father and the shop owner to the Circle Inspector, claiming they insulted him or something like that. Later the SI called the shop owner, who explained everything, but both of them have now been asked to visit the Circle Inspector’s office tomorrow.
My father didn’t do anything wrong and the shop has CCTV, so they were confident at first. But today he called saying this might be a bit tricky because they don’t know exactly what the Magistrate wrote in his complaint. Dad already has a lot going on with hospital cases, my mom’s health, and other things. He is worried now. Do you think there will be any issues guys 🙂
