No bride, no groom, just fun: Kerala hosts first fake wedding party—What is driving the trend?
Kerala hosts its first fake wedding party as youth seek fun without family stress, embracing North Indian wedding customs, music, and culture in staged celebrations that blend curiosity, social display, and recreation.
Home waterproofing scams
There are two instances from two different companies that makes me believe this is how they make money.
The first one:
A couple of years ago, we discovered a roof leak in our home. I found out that it was coming from a crack between the joints of the parapet and the roof.
We contacted a waterproofing company. They came and assessed it in one hour and said we needed to do the whole roof. I told them they needed to cover the crack, but the guy was confident and extremely enthusiastic that the leak would stop once they waterproofed the entire roof.
They didn't sound like contractors but more like salesmen because they kept on creating urgency, stating they had work elsewhere.
The scam started when they pressure-washed our roof, claiming they needed to do that for a proper "evaluation." He pointed out some cracks in the roof, which were just surface-level cracks, and said we needed to fix it immediately or it would get worse. But those cracks were nowhere near the leak. I should have caught the red flags. The selling point was that they would give a 5-year warranty.
I gave them the go-ahead, paid them an advance, and they went ahead with the work. They finished it in one day. When it was time for the final payment, they didn't give me a proper bill that stated the five-year warranty. I asked the guy in charge, and he said this was enough and he would cover it. I trusted him because we knew the guy.
Nevertheless, the leak didn't stop or improve; instead, it's the same. I lost 22k, and he never picked up my calls again.
Now, the second incident:
Again, a leak, but this time on the ground-floor wall. This time it was not damp; it was a proper leak. I again called another waterproofing company with excellent ratings on Google. The same bullshit reasons and urgency. They were sure that it was a leak from our bathroom tiles and that they needed to take the tiles out, apply waterproofing, and the leak would stop. I sent them a video of what was happening and asked them, "What if it's a pipe burst?" But they were confident and absolutely sure it was the tiles. I told them to wait and that we wouldn't use the bathroom for a week to see if it still persisted. But they wanted to come, evaluate, and do the work ASAP because they were "busy" with another job in "Palakkad." I told them a straight no, and guess what? The leak didn't stop. We called a plumber who fixed the issue in a couple of hours. Again, these aholes were quoting 20k for a small bathroom!
TLDR: Don't trust waterproofing companies. Waterproofing can be done DIY. Don't fall for their confidence and enthusiasm to get the work done. And definitely don't fall for their urgency to get it done. If they are rushing, it probably means there's a scam.

We need a discussion on the grooming gangs among private bus staffs in Kerala.
My neighbour's daughter just eloped with a private bus conductor. Girl is 18 but met him when she was a minor. Plenty of such incidents al around Kerala. What can we do about this?

My gf had an road traffic accident on 2024. facial bones were fractured. She had gone through a lot. she was in ventilator for many days. Her medication are going on and she had 3 surgeries plastic surgery and dental fixations, and 3 more to go.We are in ldr. There were lot of complications for the recent surgery it wasnt sucessfull. It was really a traumatic expereince for her. She is tired, sad and mentally exhausted. Her mental state is really worse atm. Iam really worried for her. She can't afford any therapy coz she cant go out and she is saving up money for remaining surgeries. We dont know wat to do. Can u guys help me by suggesting some good therapy options?
