AFSCME District Council 33, repping 9,000 city workers, walked out after contract talks with Mayor Parker’s admin collapsed. Trash is now beginning to pile up on the streets as residents are asked to use one of 63 drop-off sites.

The strike also affects rec center programs, 911 dispatch, airport ops workers, some Water Dept staff, and other city employees, including the Dept of Public Health, Dept of Revenue services and License and Inspection enforcement.

Crossing guards working near 63 schools with summer programming are part of the union and are expected to walk off the job. The school district is asking parents to make sure they have a plan for their children to get to and from the schools safely during the strike.

Hours into the strike on Tuesday, a judge ordered more than 200 911 dispatchers to return to work.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS VOTED TO ADVANCE THE "ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL"
House GOP leadership had to overcome a number of holdouts in order to advance the bill forward. As of 1 am on Thursday morning, five Republicans had voted in opposition to the bill, which meant the bill could have failed, but since the vote was left open, lawmakers were able to switch their vote from no to yes. The procedural vote came to 219 to 213.

The final vote is expected to take place later on Thursday as Republican lawmakers are aiming to get the Senate version of the bill to President Donald Trump's desk by July 4th. The bill, if signed into law, will extend Trump's 2017 tax cuts as well as fulfill a number of other economic campaign promises from the president, such as no tax on tips or overtime pay.
