๐ #AlumniImpact in Chirchik!
From June 5 to 28, Dilorom Hushvaktova, a 2014 Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program and 2023 Access Academic Exchange Program alumna, led a dynamic professional development project titled โUnderstanding American Perspectives through Popular Culture with English Language Teachers". Over the course of 12 interactive sessions held every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the initiative brought together 30 passionate English teachers from Chirchik and nearby schools.
๐ Inspired by her recent academic exchange in Kansas, Dilorom introduced teachers to new ways of incorporating authentic American cultural materials, such as virtual museum tours, U.S. literature, and digital media, into their classrooms.
๐จ Through engaging activities and open discussions, teachers explored how American values are reflected in everyday culture, from social media to art and beyond. The sessions went beyond textbook holidays and vocabulary, focusing on intercultural competence and strategies to bring real-world context into English lessons.
๐ก By the end of the program, participants walked away with fresh ideas, practical tools, and renewed motivation to inspire their students with more meaningful, culturally rich learning experiences.
๐ This initiative is part of the USG Alumni Program, funded by the U.S. Embassy Tashkent and administered by American Councils Uzbekistan.
