To the Hong Kong Canadian Community,
Today, we have heard the Governor General's Throne Speech and Parliament has resumed.
Though there was a short excerpt on Human Rights and the Rule of Law, unfortunately nothing was specifically mentioned about Hong Kong or the Canada-China relationship.
We know the SDIR (International Human Rights Committee) was hoping to declare the atrocities in East Turkestan (aka Xinjiang) as a genocide, but this was delayed by the proroguement.
Currently, CACN's (Canada-China Special Committee) fate is unknown. As it is a special committee, it will require the MPs to vote to re-open & resume work on the study of Hong Kong, East Turkestan and Tibet.
We know that individual MPs from the Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, and the Greens have all agreed that CACN must reconvene. We will see what the Liberal government's response is.
We are keeping a close eye on things & keep everyone posted.

A 50 ft Lantern Protest Display Appears in Front of the Vancouver Chinese Consulate when the clock struck midnight on Oct. 1st, the National Anniversary of the PRC.

A group of Hong Kong pro-democracy activists painstakingly put together a giant four-feet lantern display in protest of the atrocities by the Chinese Communist Party on a day that is regarded as the People’s Republic of China’s anniversary. These lanterns boldly greeted the Mid-Autumn festival and National “day of grief” as the clock struck midnight.
Over 150 cross-movement organisations are taking part in a coordinated global day of action against the Chinese authoritarian state.
