These Seven Temporary Pleasures of This Very Short-lived Worldly Life Should Not Distract Us From The Everlasting Afterlife – [Brief Reminder From Imaam Ibnul Qayyim]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy
Allaah [The Most High] said:
Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver [wealth], branded beautiful horses, cattle and well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world’s life; but Allah has the excellent return [Paradise with flowing rivers, etc.] with Him. [3:14]

▪️Women: They are the greatest adornment of this worldly life, the most coveted thing and the greatest trial [i.e. the impious women].
▪️Children: They are a source of honour and pride for a man etc
▪️Gold and silver: They are a means of fulfilling one’s desires [i.e. wealth].
▪️Branded beautiful horses: They are a source of might, pride and protection for their owners, and instruments of war, conquests etc
▪️Cattle: They are utilised for riding, food, clothing (i.e. their furs and skins) and other benefits.
▪️Well-tilled land [i.e. Vegetation]: A source of nourishment for them and their animals, and also a source of fruits and medication [i.e. through plants].

▫️Allaah [Glorified be He] stated that all these things are the pleasures of this present worldly life. Then He [The Most High] urged His slaves towards the enjoyment of the Hereafter, saying:

Say: “Shall I inform you of things far better than those? For Al-Muttaqun [the pious] there are Gardens [Paradise] with their Lord, underneath which rivers flow. Therein [is their] eternal [home] and Azwajun Mutahharatun [purified mates or wives] [i.e. they will have no menses etc] and Allah will be pleased with them. And Allah is All-Seer of the (His) slaves”. [3:15]

The Heavens and the Earth Weep When the Believer Dies

Ibn Jarir recorded that Said bin Jubayr said, “A man came to Ibn Abbās, may Allah be pleased with him, and said to him: “O Abu Al-Abbās, Allāh says,

"And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given respite."
(Qur’ān 44:29)

— do the heavens and the earth weep for anybody?”

He رضي الله عنه said,
“Yes, there is no one who does not have a gate in the heavens through which his provision comes down and his good deeds ascend. When the believer dies, that gate is closed; it misses him and weeps for him, and the place of prayer on earth where he used to pray and remember Allāh also weeps for him.”

But the people of Firawn left no trace of righteousness on the earth and they had no good deeds that ascended to Allāh, so the heavens and the earth did not weep for them

So it was said to him: You fast on the day of Āshūrā’ while traveling and you break your fast in Ramadhān?

So he replied: Ramadhān can be made up on other days. However, Āshūrā’ will be missed. (He will not be able to make it up.)

Choose your company wisely.

❝Sit only in the company of one who advises you to desire little from this world and who encourages you to put your hopes in the Hereafter. Take care not to sit with worldly people who speak constantly about worldly affairs; such people will ruin your religious well-being and will corrupt your heart.❞
